Interesting tidbits on trading in pass toward an AP

I got this consistent answer from three different guest relations/concierge people in two very different parts of WDW regarding using the value of a pass towards another pass. 1) you can only "upgrade" the number of days on a pass (i.e., add days to it or restore days back up to the original number on the pass) within 14 days of the first use of the pass you are trying to use to get a credit toward the new pass; 2) if you trade a partially used pass in towards an annual pass (which IS allowed past the 14 day mark), the beginning date of the annual pass will be backdated to the first day you used the original pass you are "trading in". WOW!!! That is a lot different (on both accounts) than I thought things worked in the past and different from what I thought people were reporting on the boards with respect to trading in a ticket for a credit towards a DVC annual pass. Didn't create a problem for me, but it did open my eyes a bit.

I thought this was the case for the newer magic your way passes, not the old park hoppers? I was under the impression, and it has been posted on here that you get the value for the days left according to how much you paid for the ticket. For example I have a 5 day park hopper left with 2 days on it and the value is $97.98 for the 2 days. I though I could use that amount and apply it to a new AP purchase.
What type of ticket did you have and when did you buy it?

What you say may very well be true. My ticket was a nonexpiring MYW pass that was purchased on December 30, 2005.

Correct except for the restore days part. No ticket at this time can exceed 10 days total including previously used days.

2) if you trade a partially used pass in towards an annual pass (which IS allowed past the 14 day mark), the beginning date of the annual pass will be backdated to the first day you used the original pass you are "trading in".

I really wish that people would understand that resort concierge people are not Guest Relations CMs and do not deal in AP's so their "expertise" in that area is very limited. It should be obvious to anyone who has visited WDW many times that just because a CM says it doesn't make it so. If I had a nickel for every time a WDW CM gave out incorrect information...

In your stated example, you would trade in a non-expiring MYW pass with leftover days first used in January 2005 and you would get an expired AP. Doesn't make sense, does it? When you apply the dollar value of an old MYW ticket to an AP/PAP/SP - DVC or not - the year starts the day you do the transaction. There are only two times an AP/PAP/SP pass is backdated. When you upgrade during the first 14 days and you apply the full purchase price of the ticket or when you are a Florida resident converting a three day play pass to an AP/PAP/SP. That's it.

I don't appreciate the personal attack since I do know the difference between the concierge and guest services CM's. Two of the three CM's I spoke with were at Guest Relations offices (one at DD, the other at Epcot). The third was a guest relations/concierge person. I am just relating what I was told, and I was told EXACTLY (to the letter) the same thing by all three CM's. I was originally trying to restore either the one used day to my 7 day pass or to upgrade to a longer pass (whether 9 or 10 days). Then I started asking about applying the cost to an annual pass and was given the exact answer I stated by all three CM's. Right or wrong, it was a very consistent answer which leads me to believe that there is some truth to it. In fact, I was told by the CM at DD that after 14 days of first use, the pass may not even be applied to the cost of a new equal or greater length ticket anymore. In talking with people subsequently, I am getting the impression that this is a newer policy. But perhaps it is incorrect.
