Interesting Re: Room Requests

A lightbulb went off as I was reading Pa's reply!

The largest concern I find from those on these boards about the studio HA rooms is obviously a lack of a tub. If we put on our ressies that we do not want an HA room, then that may mean little for the CMs who assign rooms. However, if enough of us repeatedly put on our ressies we want a tub, then maybe the newer (and refurbished) HA DVC studio rooms will come with a tub in the future!

Whad' ya think? :hyper: ? ? :sad2: ?
Actually, many of the handicapped accessible rooms do have a tub with grab bars.
There are 2 types of handicapped accessible rooms.
One type may have a raised seat toilet and will have a tub with grab bars. Many people who stay in those rooms don't even realize they have a handicapped accessible room.
The other type is fully wheelchair accessible. Those are the rooms with a raised seat toilet with grab bars, space in the bathroom to park/turn around a wheelchair, a roll under sink and a shower that someone using a wheelchair or shower chair can roll into.

As other posters already noted, room assigners have suggested asking for what you want (in this case a tub) instead of what you don't want. It's very easy to miss the non or to think that someone else mistyped it and the person actually asked for a HA room.

so, how is everyone handling requesting a room with a decent view or is that just pushing your luck? For instance, I need non-smoking (asthma, alergies) and I have 3 kids under the age of 8, so I would need a shower, but I would also like a decent view. How does that get worded in your list of requests, or is that just asking too much?

This may be going off on a tangent but...WHY! WHY! WHY! are there still smoking rooms on any Disney property!
For the life of me I cannot understand why Disney would want to feed into such a life threatning habit!
I dont even have any serious allergies and can't stomach the foul smell of smoke on drapes and linens. I feel very bad for those who are allergic to smoke
I am not out on a witch hunt for all smokers. Most smokers try to exercise some courtesy when lighting up. But to even walk through a 'wall' of smoke when entering public buildings is gross.Imagine what it is doing inside the villas. Hello higher maint. fees
I'm not sure how to run a poll online here that I often see, but I would be interested to see the percentage of people for banning smoking on the WDW property resorts. My guess is about 80%
Just my two cents

While I hate smoking, I don't think you will see a ban on smoking rooms. Smokers bought into DVC with the knowledge that smoking rooms are available by request (not guaranteed). Sheraton Vistana, another timeshare close to Crossroads, does not have any non-smoking designated rooms. DVC just having a few smoking is far better than that. DVC has drastically cut down on the number of smoking rooms since I joined in 1999. At Boardwalk, the 2nd and 4th floors used to be smoking, now it's just part of the 2nd. OKW used to have 6 or 8 smoking buildings, now it's just 3.

Well...I am checking in tomorrow and I hope my "smoking" room is available.

I never realized how many people have medical needs.....My parents will be extremley disappointed if they cannot drink coffee and smoke on the balcony.

The problem with asking for a room with 'a decent view' is that a decent view is very subjective. What I like to see could be quite different than what you want to see. I have had only one room that I just didn't want to stay in and I'm sure there would be a lot of people that would have had no issue with it. It's a pretty personal thing. So, if you want to be over a pool..then ask for it or if you want to see pretty gardens, put that in your request. But, keep in mind that these are simply that...a request, there is nothing guaranteed.
