interesting opinion about the not so magical mouse

so my husband says "If they really want to complain about changes then we can take it way back to when I was a kid and you actually had to buy coupons like a carnival - fastpass wasn't in existence". He tells me about that all the time how there wasn't a charge to get in the parks but it was like a carnival - ticket windows and you had to buy tickets PER ride...

:D

Honestly, most of this article seemed like the author was REALLY exaggerating for effect. Completely overdramatic! The germ thing alone is a great example. Then, if you're starving before one ride, but just HAVE to ride it due to FP, why go to a 2 hr character line, without eating first? No way would I do that to my kids, no matter what it was for, no matter what plan was in place.

There are lots of people who love FP+, and lots who hate it, and lots who adjust to it so they can continue to visit WDW. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and their feelings about their vacation are completely valid. However, when your vacation is not great, in large part due to your own mistakes, I don't feel it's Disney's fault.

Disney dropped that system at DL & WDW because it cost them market share.

People claim you can still be spontaneous, but the rides that used to be 15-20 minute waits at most (Pirates, HM, Small World) are now an hour wait.

No. They are not. Sometimes they are, and they may have been when you were there, but they are not like that ALL the time. I try to avoid Small World but I have actually walked onto both HM and Pirates more than once since the full rollout of FP+. And most of the time I have seen posted waits for these at 20-30 minutes, which seems long for those rides but it's nowhere near an hour. Of course it's all going to depend on what time of year you are there and what time of day you are trying to board the rides. But that was also true before.

Current wait times on the app, is 20 minutes for Pirates, 25 for Jungle Cruise (that's normal for the Jingle Cruise seasonal thingy), 10 for Small World... and only 10 for Space and Splash Mountains! HM is closed. the only MK attraction that currently has an hour wait is 7 Dwarves Mine Train.

It sounds as though it did not enter her mind to buy the kids a snack. Although she would probably have a reason for why she couldn't do that either.

I'm guessing if she asked her kids as they were checking out -- Did you guys have a good time at Disney World? They would scream back YYYYYEEEEESSSSSS WE LOVED IT!!!!!!!!. Thus, I think she missed the boat. To come back from a week w your kids who had a BLAST and have such negativity to report is... beyond me.

It's Disney World folks.

Doubt it. This is clearly one of those parents we've all seen who walk around complaining about everything their whole trip and making their kids miserable. I never get that when I see it.

On our trip 3 years ago my middle son was 4 1/2 years old. Imagine my shock and chagrin when I saw his mouth on the railing in the Test Track queue!

I also caught him licking the aquarium glass in the Seas Pavilion! I don't know what happened, but apparently the sights/sounds/smells weren't enough, he just had to taste Disney World.

Of course he got sick. While he was throwing up in the middle of the night my husband told him - this is why you can't lick stuff. His response, in between heaves, "but you can lick stamps, and ice cream cones" :rotfl:

Honestly, it's not a real Disney trip until I get thrown up on.

OK, this made me literally LOL. I caught my son doing the same thing at a window by the elevators in BLT because "I wondered what Space Mountain Tastes like"

This topic is beating a dead horse, but its amazing to me the amount of people on here who either have blinders on or have never experienced the old fastpass system.

People claim you can still be spontaneous, but the rides that used to be 15-20 minute waits at most (Pirates, HM, Small World) are now an hour wait. So ok great, you ride 3 headliners with FP+, and then what? We went last February at what was supposed to be a slower time, and the lines for Pirates and HM were insane.

So if we don't tour your way we have blinders on? This argument from the anti-FP crowd that rides that never had waits now do is absolutely rubbish. I have pics of me drenched in sweat waiting on 30+ minute queues for HM, PPF, and Pirates from multiple trips from the early 2000s. The "Good Ol' Days" weren't as good as many here try to imply. Lines always existed and anyone claiming they did not are in fact, wearing blinders.

"When were you last here? What park, what day?" And I love how they never apologize (at least they haven't to me!) :) So true. Lots of things are more magical when you are a kid. I looked on her website and apparently she is from Indiana, moved to Florida for eight years, then moved back to Indiana. I'm thinking those three dozen visits were while she was in living in Florida and perhaps some as a kid too. I don't know where she lived in Florida, but wherever, it would be less expensive than doing a big trip from Indiana. Therefore her expectations would be lower and also her perception of value would be different. If I could drive there in a few hours, my perception of value would be drastically different than having to buy airfare and endure a full-body scan to get there. ;)
i was there oct 27 to oct 31 this year. And over memorial day. I observed many people at the gates waiting next to cast members with their hand in the air calling for a ipad person to come check the ticket, including for me not just once. Never we are sorry for the delay. Whats your name zip code what park were you in last where did you purchase it when did you purchase it I need to see your ID. Do you have the credit card you purchased it with.

Get in the stand-by line with everyone else? :confused3 If you go to Disney World and expect to NEVER wait in any line, that's unrealistic expectations.

So before I was able to pull at least 3 paper fast passes a day, and in the meantime wait in the relatively short lines for other rides. I never said I didn't expect to wait in line. The current system is not better.

Well then we all must be blind!

LOL my 7yo has this fascination with "ohhh look its on the ground" ... I spend my life saying - Put that down and stop picking stuff up... My 15yo, well he is a boy and let's face it, if he showers and uses soap I am doing good that day :rolleyes1

No telling what germs we will pick up but I am sure there will plenty of them - oh well, I refuse to live in a bubble lol

Oh, yeah, we've got one of those too. She ate an M&M off the floor of TJMaxx recently. And always picking up trash - why oh why do people let their kids drop lollipop sticks on the ground? It's not just trash, it's sticky! Yuck!

Maybe not FOR YOU, but it is for others.

I've been going to Disney since before FP- even existed and I very much remember waiting in very long lines for both POTC and HM. And maybe that can be attributed to the time of year we went, but to say they've NEVER had long lines is false.

i think there are lots of legit reasons to dislike fp+ and the new changes, no need to be dramatic or make stuff up.

you know what I'm really tired of? all the people dissing fast pass plus.
disney made this system truly remarkable. it is much more fair people who medically can't get up early in the mornings and race to the fast pass distributor machines were out of luck by the time they got to the park. i think planning 3 attractions is not that big of an issue i like knowing i have 3 passes.
if selecting 3 attractions is oh so much planning? wow thats kind of sad. i mean disney has to be planned for you can simply skip it all and just go free lance.

i honestly love the new system its much more efficient, and fair. I'm so tired of people who whine about only getting three and having to book so far ahead.

to make the best of disney you plan plan plan plan, then when you're there you can relax and just enjoy all the magic. if something messes up? whatever you're at disney enjoy it!

thank god it isn't just my weirdo daughter lol :yay: I can see the speech now on the drive down...

"now, we don't pick up things on the ground and eat them..." :teacher:

Last week while we were at our local six flags I turned away from my two year old to help my Four year old and I caught him on all four eating popcorn off the ground  I picked him up and strapped him in his stroller praying he would not get sick. I will never tell my DH about this.
Kids!!! :scared:

We live in the same world, I tell my kids "if its not food it doesn't go in your mouth!!!"

I'm sorry but the original was a huge disadvantage to a lot of people. not my fault people hate having to be prepared. and sadly it looks like disney agreed seeing how they ditched the original so for all the whiners suck it up.:cool1:

let just enjoy disney and keep moving forward as said by the man who started it all with a mouse

who is at a disadvantage? people who show up same day spur of the moment? technically i think they shouldn't get privileges over those who are resort guests, or people who planned there trip at least a month out.
