Interesting... magic bands

Very interesting.

WDW has no longer been including free MBs with their packages as of 2021, you have to specifically order and pay for them. Our last package was booked 2020 and they were still included for free and ordering was part of the package procedures. I assume it's still the same except they add a charge.

I wonder if this notification was a 'glitch' in DL's system or what. I can't see DLR including free MBs when WDW isn't and I can't see them willy nilly just sending MBs to people without them giving the option to choose colors & cost or the option to 'opt out'. Did this person happen to mention whether or not including 'potential' MBs was part of their booking process?

But either way, sounds as if they're getting closer to releasing MBs at DL.

I agree I think there is like a 5% chance this is real and 95% chance it's a glitch.

They state that they got a tracking number, a notification from Disney and are staying a good neighbor hotel. The tracking just says label created.

I've had (not Disney) shipping 'glitches' where I was notified 'Your product has shipped' with a tracking number and that tracking number suddenly it disappeared and a few days later I got a new identical email with a different tracking number that actually showed the shipment moving along. I've also had tracking numbers that went nowhere until suddenly the package showed up at my door.

If I were her I'd be calling Disney and saying 'what gives'? But then again maybe she doesn't want to jinx anything.

On the positive side maybe that's means they are getting close to release time! 🎉🎉
I absolutely think it does. But 'getting close' for Disney can be anywhere from 24 hours to 24 weeks.

Although I think the announcement will be made early enough to allow folks with already booked stays to be able to customize and order MBs in time for arrival. IIRC at WDW it's at least 10 days in advance to have them delivered to your home and no less than 5 days in advance to have them delivered to your onsite hotel. Less than 5 days and you get a generic grey one at your onsite. But since most DLR guests stay offsite I'd think they'd announce it with enough time for guests to get their bands delivered at home.

So...my guess is that it'll be announced for DL at least 3 weeks before 'MB Day'. WDW may get a shorter window since MBs are already part of one's booking procedure so people who have already booked have already 'done' their MB ordering.

I'm sure it was a glitch, but I'm really hoping we'll see them soon. WDW is a mess in a lot of ways, but I absolutely love the convenience of the magic bands. I can't wait to experience them. With less than 50 days until my trip, I'll be watching with fingers crossed.

I'm curious, what exactly do Magic Bands do? I've never been to WDW so I've never had a chance to use them.
They do everything. We visited WDW in 2016 and we all agreed that Magic Bands are amazing. They are your Disney hotel room key, park tickets, FP (now LL) reservations, PhotoPass, credit card, dining plan, dining reservations, etc. When I left my hotel room each day, I literally carried nothing in my pockets - just a Magic Band on my wrist. No money, no credit cards needed. It was a very liberating experience and we all said that we wished "the real world" was this easy.

Absolutely! I still carry my small 'park bag' at WDW, but the only time I have to get my phone out was to book new FP+ (in the BeforeTimes) or to check in for an ADR. And of course, to take pictures!

Once DLR went 'electronic' for FPs, I always opted to use the paper ticket we were given at entry to scan in at FP lines. This is because getting my phone out was a big hassle and butterfingers me was always worried about dropping it. Much easier to just keep that ticket in my pants pocket or the outside pocket of my purse. I am SOOOO looking forward to MBs at DLR! Lift your wrist, hear the tone or see the green light and simply walk on in. You barely have to slow down.

All of this ☝️. I was skeptical years ago when we did it the first time but now I'm a BIG believer in them. I no longer carry a wallet and really lightens what is in my bagpack.

(I'm not one for buying extras but this past trip I even purchased the princess Leia one that says the future is female so I could hang it in my office after our trip.)

We have been to WDW 20+ times, but this will only be my second time at DL. I am trying to wrap my head around having to use my phone for tickets, park reservations, LL, and DAS. I am going to miss magic bands for sure!
When are you heading there? They said announcement was coming soon. 🤞

**Also same boat. We've done 21 trips to WDW and DL Tokyo but our first to DL this fall. I have come to depend on the convenience of MBs. ❤️

Those of you who don't carry a wallet have been lucky. We've had a couple times when Magic Band system went down and you needed a credit card. The first time it happened was at Contemporary our very first day, very first visit. We got off the plane, dropped off luggage at Ft Wild, and took the boat over. All iof us were starving, get food ordered and I try to pay with my MB. They said sorry, system down, you need a CC. Thankfully DH had not listened when I told him he didn't need his wallet. There's also the issue of ID for adult beverages, and don't you need a phone for Genie +?

Totally!!! I also bring some cash, because more than once WDW has had the CC system go down and they could only take cash. I also get concerned that the CC on my account, the one that the MB uses, could get a hold on it from the CC company and not let me use it. So, I bring a different CC, just in case. When I get hangry, any of that garbage is really going to send me ballistic.

My back up usually includes Disney GCs because my current saving plan includes as many free/discounted GCs as possible.
