"Interesting" experience with transferred points

Just had a rather strange experience booking a reservation using transferred points.

Of course I had to call MS, since transferred points don't show up online...

I had 150 transferred points--April UY, OKW points, and 137 of my own points (2013 points, Feb UY)--SSR and BCV--to use.

I booked two BLT studios for a week in late Feb/early March...used all my transferred points and have 29 BCV points left...and that's as it should be--

For a 2/24-3/2 reservation, the transferred points should be current year points (April UY; reservation in Feb-March)...but the CM insisted (including calling in a supervisor) that those points had to be banked forward into my own use year (Feb) in order to use them...that just seems strange (and wrong) to me...what do you-all think?

I "argued" a bit, but just a bit...I didn't really care how they did what they did so long as I got my reservations (and I did...got both studios and my points totals show up correctly online)...I told the CM that I didn't understand what she was doing, or why (she said she didn't either but it's what her supervisor was telling her to do), but my reservations are showing correctly, as are my points, so I guess I don't care...

Weird... very weird...

Transferred points do have their issues--in concept they seem like such a good solution to a year or two of needing extra points...but they sure do have their issues when it comes time to use them!

Anyway, all's well that ends well; the CMs at MS were nice as could be, altho the booking did take considerably longer than usual...

Just thought I'd share as it seemed a strange experience to me...

Transferred points always maintain their original home resort and use year so that definitely sounds wrong to me.

That's what I thought--and what I explained to the CMs (including the supervisor), too...I noted that if they banked those points they wouldn't be useable for my Feb-March reservation...they disagreed, and the computer wouldn't let them make the reservation without doing it that way (or so they told me...I sat on hold for a good 15 minutes or so while they figured out how to make the reservations)...

I made certain my reservations were made, and my own point totals were correct, and then I stopped trying to stop them from doing it the way they said (banking the transferred points into my use year to use them--)

But it did seem really really strange to me...

transferred points can be banked, not borrowed. it looks like they banked the transferred points to your February 2013 UY for your Feb. trip.

Transfers are subject to the following restrictions:
a. Transferred Home Resort Vacation Points associated with any Ownership Interest owned by a Club Member who did not purchase such Ownership Interest directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc. may not be used for any Club Member benefit program that does not transfer with the transfer of the Ownership Interest (including, without limitation, the benefit programs known as the Adventurer Collection, Concierge Collection and Disney Collection).

b. Both Club Members must be current on their Annual Dues and monthly payments (if applicable), and any other outstanding balances, including, but not limited to, fees associated with any exchange programs, miscellaneous services booked by Member Services in connection with Club Member
reservations, and any incidental charges and/or balances due in relation to DVC Resort stays, in order to give or receive a Transfer. Both Club Members must be closed in order to participate in a Transfer.

c. All Transferred Home Resort Vacation Points retain the Use Year of the transferring Club Member and expire at the end of the transferring Club Member's Use Year, unless they are Banked.

d. Once Banked, Transferred Home Resort Vacation Points will expire at the end of the Transferring Club Member’s next Use Year, unless they are used. In addition, Transferred Home Resort Vacation Points cannot be un-Banked or returned to their original Use Year.

e. The Club Member who is Transferring the Home Resort Vacation Points to another Club Member is still responsible for the Annual Dues payment on those Transferred Home Resort Vacation Points.

f. Banked or Borrowed Home Resort Vacation Points may not be Transferred.

g. Transferred Home Resort Vacation Points may not be Borrowed or returned to the Transferring Club Member.

Yes, but the OP's point was that if the transferred points were April, 2012, then they did not need to be banked to be used in Feb/Mar of 2013.

I had this same issue with transferred points once. I was looking for points to transfer to me for an October 2010 trip, and I was told by MS (in advance, fortunately, when I called them to be sure I understood how to do it), NOT to get points from a Dec UY. My UY is March, and I was told that I wouldn't be able to use Dec. 2009 points, because MY 2009 UY had already expired. I was completely baffled by this, but I didn't want to take a chance.

Although the points are supposed to keep their home UY, there is something about the transfer that means they have to satisfy some of the requirements of your UY, too.

I have posted many time that transferred points should be avoided at all costs. We have had issues with them several times. At least you didn't lose the reservation while MS was trying to figure out what to do, that is what happened to us.

Keep an eye on your account and reservation. We had our account modified by MS a week or so after the reservation was made apparently due to a point audit that they do.

A friend transferred points to me one time to make a combined reservation and I had to bank even though her points would have been current year. Must be some kind of system "glitch".

this is making me nervous. i have an october use year. i had 80 september 2012 use year points transferred into my account. the rep told me they are currently in my 2011 use year. i asked if i could bank them to use in october 2013, and was told, yes, that would be fine. but if i'm reading this correctly, once i bank them, they will be in my october 2012 use year and therefore, not valid for travel in october 2013? is that true? if so, i'm in trouble. i have not yet banked them.

The rules made by Disney states that the points will retain their home resort and UY. Thus the transfered points are September 2012 points. If you bank them, they will be September 2013 points.

As I PP, MS is horrible when it comes to transferred points. Ask for a Manager or someone from Team Line if you need help.

Bill thanks. I decided to solve the problem by going in october/november of this year and not deal with trying to book next year with these transferred points. with that jetblue promo that was valid yesterday, i got real cheap flights, and now i'm booked oct 29-nov 1 in a bwv garden/pool studio, nov 1 in kidani standard studio, and nov 2 in kidani savannah studio. hoping to at least get the last 2 nights in the same type of room at kidani, but if not, oh well, happy i've got rooms booked!

And did they tell you you had to bank them first? Just curious.

Nope she did not mention banking. So who knows. I used some of the transfered for oct-nov 2012 and some for april 2013.

This girl impressed me and seemed like she knew what she was doing. I originally grabbed the nights online and she had no problems reallocating as necessary. I was doing some other things on the same call and everything ended up exactly as I had calculated.

With some of the stories I've read I feel like I got lucky. But who knows if I would have gotten as lucky if/when I tried to book for oct 2013. At least now I know I don't need to worry about it.
