Glad to hear it! I own stock in BOTH companies! ;)

I'm just pointing it out because so many people decide which way to go based on the sports lineup.

As someone who once had XM, and now have Sirius, I feel like the music is interchangeable; it is the sports and talk shows that that will be the real draw to each service.

yep....talk shows and sports is what it's gonna be about! that's the only reason we got XM....for O&A!!

My Beetle came with XM for a year. DH wanted Sirius for Howard Stern, though.

My DH is wondering something, and hopes that those of you can help him with a question he's got about Sirius...

On XM, the stations play music with MINIMAL or no disc jockey interaction. We've heard that all the jocks we grew up listening to in NY (Carol Miller, Jim Kerr, etc) are all on Sirius. Do they do the usual radio thing (4 songs, jock break, 4 songs, more talk), or is it music with minimal talking? If he can have Howard, NYC Jocks he loves and Nascar, we know what is going in his car!

Suzanne

Who is in love with XM having public radio!

Music on Sirius depends on the channel, but basically there is very little chit chat on most channels. "Greg Brady" has a show on the Sirius 70's channel.

And no commercials on music channels.

There sre some jocks that I grew up with in Philly on Sirius as well.

I know that lots of folks choose which company to go with based on sports.... lots of folks went with XM because they carried NASCAR exclusively.

Looks like that is gonna change

I just told DH that I wanted XM radio for my Birthday (April) because of the NASCAR thing but now I'm not so sure because of this... but then again, the new contract doesn't start until Feb 2007 - that's 2 years and a lot of racing and qualifying from now so...decisions, decisions, decisions. Figures the first time I give DH a "suggestion" for my birthday gift I have might have to rescind it.

Who has hockey? :rolleyes1

Hockey? On the radio? Almost as boring as golf on the radio, I would think.

I can't even figure out what guys see in NASCAR on the radio. That seems wierd.

Now, we love XM because of baseball.

We will enjoy listening to NASCAR as long as we can. We loved getting to listen to ACC coverage and are also looking forward to hearing MLB.

Thanks PD! You know that was really a bummer because I wanted Sirius and DH wants NASCAR. Now I can say...see honey NASCAR will be on Sirius eventually!
YEA!

One will only listen to sports that they truly understand and "like". There is a lot more to auto racing than just making left turns all day but you probably wouldn't understand that aspect. The radio announcers are people who understand the intricacies of the sport. They are able to relay information about setups, pit strategy, fuel windows and statistics. Listening to NASCAR on the radio can be very exciting because you can picture the action in your mind and if you are an avid fan, that can mean picturing details right down to stickers on the sides of the cars.

This rings true with ANY sport. The more knowledge you have of and the more you like a sport, the more enjoyable it will be listening on the radio. This includes hockey, golf and EVEN baseball.

Now for the OP. I'm not surprised that Sirius made a bid an won the NASCAR broadcasting rights. They put their toe in the water a few years ago when they took over sponsoring rights at Watkins Glen. We now have Sirius at the Glen instead of Bud at the Glen. It was then they realized that NASCAR would be a lucrative market and along with Stern would provide a great 1-2 punch.

Well, NASCAR makes a 1 - 2 - 3 puinch, with them being third becuase football is what drove Sirius this past year. But I am not anti - NASCAR. I don't really understand all the intricacies, but I like watching Kurt Bush, Kasey Kahne, and perennial loser Ricky Craven.

I'll take third in that lineup any day. I was on the fence about purchasing one of the Sirius units but now that NASCAR is added for the 2007 season, I think I'll take the plunge.

And stop picking on poor Ricky, he is a northeast boy afterall. ;)
