So today, I get to school expecting to finish up my midterms (I have 2 more to take). 1st period went ok (not as boring as usual LOL.) Then on my way to second, I look out the window and it looks like a blizzard! I seriosly wondered where all this snow came from as we haven't had ANY snow at all this winter and there was no snow this morning. There was so much that I thought we would get an early dismissal. Then I go to 3rd period and they were talking about a bomb threat. We went on "lockdown" for 5 minutes, then they decided to move us to 4th period, which is also lunch for some people. They had us there for about 15 minutes and called in the search dogs. Then they made an announcement and told us to go to our lockers and get our coats and then evacuate the building. So the entire school was standing in the parking lot, about 10 feet from the building. What that will do if the school blows up, I will never know. Eventually we moved into the lower half of the parking lot. Seniors that drive to school got in their cars to keep warm (keep in mind the blizzard-like conditions mentioned earlier). Everyone stood outside for about half an hour waiting. Then they herded us like cattle (not just my opinion, everyone around us was saying it too) back into the school and put the entire student body into the gym. Again, what that would do, I will never know. 2 hours after this whole thing started, our principal talked to us a little bit (not really saying what happened, though) and told us that midterms were cancelled for today (woohoo I guess) and he said "The question is where do we go for the rest of the day" Everybody got all excited that we were going to go home until he said "We can't be selfish about this, so we have to go back to class and be on a normal schedule." Well it wasn't really that normal being that we were supposed to have midterms 5th and 6th periods, so those teachers didn't have anything planned and half the students left anyways. So that whole ordeal ended with us going back to 4th period for about 20 minutes then spending 30 minutes in each class after that.

Did anybody else have an interesting day? Also, how do you think our school handled the situation? They decided it wasn't a "credible threat", but I don't know if the handled that great. It's over and done with now and my friends and I personally got a laugh out of how they handled this (there have been other situations in the past that we thought were handled in a slightly humorous way, lots of stories bout that. lol.), so I'm not panicked and I wasn't then (except for the 2 minutes of mass chaos when we didn't know where to go after they made the announcement to evacuate). Just curious as to what yall thought.

When we have bomb threats I wonder the same thing. They put us like 5 feet from the school. We'd die either way. It's morbid, but it's the truth.

99% of the time when you think they're going to let you out early - they don't. Schools try to avoid early dismissals WHENEVER they can. Even if it's a blizzard, unless the roads are quickly icing over, and it's not later then like 11am, they'll keep you there.

If it's like 1pm, and the roads are icing, they tend to keep you. If it's like 9am, you might have a shot of going home otherwise, no.

Guess what happened today! Yep, another bomb threat. This time they made an announcement in 4th period for everyone to stay in their class so we just assumed that it was another search with the dogs. Then administrators came door to door and whispered stuff to the teacher. Our teacher said do NOT go to your lockers, quickly go straight to the gym, do not stop anywhere and stay together. So we were all panicked and had no idea what was going on. We sat in the gym for a while and our principal told us there was another bomb threat and it was some student in the school. Midterms were yet again canceled. That was in the middle of the lunches so they had to squeeze in all 3 remaining lunches. They sent the people in the next lunch (my lunch) up to the cafeteria. We were not allowed to stop at our lockers as they were still doing the search. So they gave us all free lunches (at least everyone in my lunch). A ton of people had their lockers searched without them being there. On normal searches, they come get you if they search your locker and they make you open it and stand there the whole time. Midterms are canceled, yet again. Luckily I finished one of them yesterday. But I'm half way through my math one, which really stinks. Do people seriously want to get out of midterms this bad? Honestly, midterms have lasted 3 weeks at this point. Its really ridiculous. Sorry, just venting. After this week, thank goodness we have a 3-day weekend.

Oh, I meant to reply to this yesterday, too. That is true about not having an early dismissal after like 11. I really wasn't complaining about not having an early dismissal, although it would have been nice if there was and it was pointless to stay. I was more complaining about the idiot that did this and the way it was handled.

Little side story: I think it was two years ago when Hurrican Ivan I think it was created a ton of flooding in my area. My town never floods, even when other areas around here do and that day it was bad. Our school decided to have an early dismissal at 2:16 PM. Sounds ridiculous that it was so late, right? Its even more ridiculous when you find out our school gets out at 2:15 PM. It has become a running joke in our school that our early dismissals are after school lets out.

DD's Middle/Highschool had a bomb threat last Thursday. All of the kids were ordered to line up and walk directly to the elementary school gym.No stopping at lockers and they couldn't take anything out of the building with them either. The Elementary school is about 300 feet behind the middle/high school so the kids had a safe place to wait until the busses/parents came to pick them up,.

Is your gym attached to the school? As a parent I would be upset that there's no safe place for situations like this.
Hopefully your day will go better tomorrow.:thumbsup2

Yes, our gym is attached to the school. Our middle school is on the same campus as our high school, so we could have easily walked over there and sat in their gym. The threat today, we weren't allowed to stop at our lockers, but we did on Tuesday. Fortunately we don't have school tomorrow. I need a break from that place. LOL. Something supposedly happened yesterday, too, but they didn't do anything about it. None of my friends parents seemed too concerned on Tuesday, though. My mom said I could leave if I could get a ride, but she wasn't going to leave work and my dad said that that happened all the time when he was in high school. Everyone elses parents were like okay, whatever, come home if you want, but I'm not coming to get you.
