Interesting Conversation about DVC California

I spoke to my guide this morning and I asked him if DVC is planning anything at Disneyland or if they are just out there to promote sales in Florida. He said, "Weeeeeelll, let's put it this way - do you think that Disney would invest this much time and money if there was not going to be anything to sell?"

He also told me that he now sails several times a year on the Magic to do DVC sales. He will be doing the West Coast cruise this summer.

It's nothing definite but I thought it was interesting for those of us who would love to see a DVC property at DL.

I believe that DVC just got licensed to sell in California. I wonder if that lends some truth to some of the rumors. It would make sense. As a West Coaster, I would love to see DVC and the DCL come to the west coast, but I don't plan to hold my breath! :rolleyes1

I'll tell you what I'd like to see in California - and it's not a DVC at Disneyland!

I'd love to see a HHI/Vero style resort on the central coast between Santa Barbara and Monterey. Or, better yet, between Monterey and San Francisco! California's a great state and there are a lot of other possibilities, but DL would be far down on my list.

I spoke with a few of the DVC reps that relocated to Disneyland Resort. They said that the key is how the program sells in the next year or so to Californians. The more memberships they sell, the more that Disney will be willing to invest in finding some property to construct a DVC resort in CA.

Five carts currently, along with a preview center at Disneyland Resort...but they aren't promoting the Disney Collection so much as the Concierge Collection, which seems like a bad use of points to me.

Famous last words from the most recent DVD board meeting:

"Let's not give them anything to buy until we see if we can sell."

Sounds reasonable.

I would second that idea!

I love these non-answers. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Not picking on you, MinnieFan, but it's funny how every one of these Guide stories always ends in a vague inference rather than an actual detailed reply. I think the Guides probably have bets going to see who can get more of their "rumors" repeated here on the boards. :)

Last year we stayed a week at Marriott's Newport Coast resort, which many know at one time was going to be a DVC resort. (Officially announced, then dropped, along with the NY City resort being dropped) Most likely dropped based on the poor VB and HH sales that were taking place at the time.

Newport Coast was a great resort, but with traffic it would be a drive to get to DL and I'm not sure how it would have performed as a DVC resort on it's own. I'm pretty sure the point structure would have had to have been pretty high.

I personally would not expect DVC to build a resort anywhere outside immediate access to DL/CA/DD areas.
