I just saw a commercial for Universal Studios and at the end the announcer says, "when fairy tales and pixie dust isn't enough". I did a double-take. I thought it was a pretty bold statement and I think my initial statement was "BURN!" (if you watch That 70's show, you know what I mean). Has anyone else seen that commercial yet?

I've seen it a few times in the past week. It's kinda rude I think.

I've seen it, too. The first time my wife thought I was going to throw something at the TV. I've been going to WDW since 1986 and haven't had any desire to go to Universal. The fairytales and pixie dust must be working for me

Are we all obsessed? I kinda think we're perfectly normal and everyone else is screwed up.:D

I think the Universal tag line should be: "If you want to escape the pixie dust and be treated badly, come here!"

:)

I like the commerical- when I heard it I thought "Hey, a Disney shout-out!"
My BF and I usually just say "They ARE our thing!!"

I thought it was humorous. A good dig on the 'Disney' mentality. I mean, that's pretty much what the Disney ads promote, so why not show an alternative.

I bet it gets them a good deal of adult business. "So honey, where should we go? Universal with it's rides and adventure things or Disney and tinkerbell??" I think that answer would be Universal in a good deal of the population....

Remember, those that understand <i>understand</i> while those that don't will never get it.

I have seen several Universal commericals with that tag line. We have gone to US/IOA on 2 diffeent tris and had great service and a good time there.

I agree with Jeff. I have never seen this commercial, but it wouldn't offend me as a Disney World fan. Why should it? I don't think it's an insult to Disney World, it's simply trying to attract a different type of customer.

George, I have no desire to go to Universal studios, either. My DSs LOVE Disney World, but since DS15 is a huge roller coaster fan, I can see a one day trip to Universal in our future one day so he can ride the coasters there.

I ahve seen it and thought it was kinda funny.
The one that really makes us wonder is the tourist commercial for Louisiana.
At the end it is so Disney-esque it's ridiculous.
Just glancing you would think you were watching a WDW commercial with the fireworks over the castle.

Sticks and stones wont hurt us anymore than pixie dust can cure so it don't bother me any.

Steve

Since my capacity for "thrill rides" is very limited because of physical limitations, Universal doesn't appeal to me at all----the thing I like most about WDW is that there is so much for me to see and do without going on rides that are hazardous to my health!

I thought is wasn;t very nice to say that.

However, my son and I did have a pretty good time last summer when we were at Universal before going to WDW.

I think along the lines of Jeff above. I have become as much a 'Disney nut' in recent years as anyone on the DIS here, but have enjoyed (have had Universal AP's for 3 years now) my visits to USF/IoA during each trip to Orlando. But there sure is room for more than one player there. I do think the tagline is several things....recognition of the 'king of the hill', not unlike Avis' tagline of years ago, 'we're number two, so we try harder', and it is a tongue-in-cheek 'jab' at Disney, like many of the scenes and dialog were in the movie Shrek. The 'little guys' up the street in Orlando do provide a great show, great bang for the buck, but, like they say, no fairy tales and pixie dust. I like FT's and PD for about 10 days at a time, the thrills for 1 or 2, but still do like them.

I guess if you're not #1, you have to resort to sarcasm and cheap shots in an effort to gain some ground.

Universal doesn't impress, never has, probably never will. We stop in occasionally to see fi ti's gotten any better since our first time there, and it hasn't. Attractions are decent, but the "feel" of the place isn't the same, the overall attitude of the employees isn't the same...as another poster said, thse of us who understand it, understand it and those that don't never will.

That commercial reminds me of when we went to IOA this past Feb. We only went because DS is a huge Dr. Suess fan, and so we went and spent the morning in Suess Landing. Anyhow, as we were entering the turnstiles, there was a Universal employee standing there. He asks me "Do you want a tissue?" I was confused why he was asking me this. Then he says "So you can wipe that Pooh off your bag!" I had my black Disney bag that spells out Disney on the front using the characters as letters, Pooh being one of them. Well, let me tell you, seeing as though this was the first time I had been to Universal, it wasn't starting out to well! I thought that his comment was kind of a cheap shot at Disney, but Suess Landing was fun and we had a good time, DS was in heaven!

I've seen that commercial. I was surprised and highly amused at the pixie dust comment! I thought it was really clever of them to come out and acknowledge their main competitor in that way.

Go to Universal..shorter lines at WDW for me
