This morning's Miami Herald has an in-depth report on what went wrong in Hurricane Katrina. Obviously, it is still too early to identify everything that went wrong, and Murphy's Law is still in full effect so new things will occur, but this is an interesting article.
For those of you not familiar with the Miami Herald, it is an unabashedly liberal newspaper, the home paper of the Knight-Ridder chain. That said, the article seems to be pretty well-balanced to me.
As I've been predicting from my experience, the article shows fundamental failings at all levels of government, by members of both political parties, as well as failures by career government employees not involved in politics.
