COLOR SWAP INTEREST THREAD
Sign up May 12-16,
due August 14

The color swap sign ups are in June. This is just an interest thread to see what you all are interested in. I will be having page groups and element groups. Some questions below -- pages in red, elements in purple

Pages:
First Question : How would you like the groups set up for pages?

One color groups
Red
1.
2.
3.
4.

OR

You pick color groups
Grp 1
1.
2.
3.
4.

or set up multi color groups
grp 1
1. red
2. blue
3. orange
4. black

grp 2
1. yellow
2. pink
3. purple
4. green
etc.

OR
both choices 1 and 2

2nd question for pages
Would you be interested in a use your stash group -- make 4 pages of equal quality, but they do not have to be the same -- no color picked, but they should not have a theme –that is, not 4th of July. I think this would be a good way to use up those single sheets of patterned paper.

3rd question for pages
What do think of the blank topper requirement? Keep it? Drop it? Expand it somehow (please give me an idea)

Elements
1st question: How many elements?
Any 2 elements or photomat & box + 2 element(is this a mini page kit?) or other idea(please be specific)

2nd question: How many ways embellished?

3rd question: How would you like the groups set up?

One color groups (everybody in the group uses the same color)
Red
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

Or You Pick the color groups
Grp 1
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

Or pre-set multi color groups
Grp 1
1. red
2. blue
3. orange
4. brown
5. black
6. gray

Grp 2
1. yellow
2. pink
3. purple
4. green
5. cream
6. metallic

OR both options 1 & 2

4th question for elements
Would you like a use your stash group? The elements in each set must be of equal quality but each set in a group would not have to match, the color of each set would not need to be the same . The sets should not have a theme, like baseball.

5th question for elements
I would like to have a few other groups if there is interest. I would research and pick a basic grey line (or other line -- I am open to suggestions) that seems readily available. I would find the names of the co-ordinating Bazzill cardstock. Each person in the group will pick one element with no repeats in the group. You make your elements using only paper from the specific line stated. In the end, you will have a perfectly matching page kit. If you are interested in these groups, please post your thoughts and ideas. My idea is not very well thought out at this point.

Here is an example:
Group: Basic Grey Marrakesh Line
Bazzill colors Marrakesh: Pear, Sea Water, French Vanilla, Brown, Pauly poo, Red Rock, Sun Coral, Nightmist, Moss, Leapfrog

So if you join this group, you will use the paper listed.

To add to this, we could also have groups in which 3(?) specific bazzill colors are required, but no patterned paper requirement. Does this sound interesting?

I’d like to stress here that there will be groups in which there are no specific paper requirements.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and post your answers and ideas. If you have any questions, please ask.

Have to go get kiddos. I'll be posting later.
The color swaps have been some of the most versatile ones to date.

I've never done this SWAP and it's always been confusing to me.
But I'm gonna look at the pics of the last one...
Update
Ahhhhh I get it!!!! Yeah I'd do some elements.
Can we do popular color combo's too?
I do alot of Black and white and Pink and black those are my favs for my personal albums.

Combos sound cool. I know when I did colors last time, I didn't just use single color & white. I used a lot of patterned paper that had the color as the major one in the print.

Just my opinion, because you know I'll go with the majority, but for pages, I like the mixed groups. I like the pre-set colors. It is nice to know what I'm getting ahead of time, before signing up. Even though I have boys, I still use some girlie colors.

For the elements - I like the single color groups doing two elements.
The embellishing part - that's tricky. I got back some great things that used nice paper and had an extra layer or primas & brads or ribbon and embossing and those are almost all used up. :) But I also know how hard it is to keep the embellishing from overpowering and becoming the focal point, instead of the photos or the layout itself. I like the art, but I know not everyone does. And that is where it gets tricky. How to please the most people. So I think there needs to be some embellishing other than a liberal dose of ink, but I don't think there needs to be "2" ways. :confused3 Does that make any sense?

I like the idea of the solids - bazzil - all being from one color palette with the patterned paper just need to match the colors. This way we can mix and match our elements and they will match because the solids do.

With regards to using up our stash - you know I'm up for that. Only this time I will keep it to elements. :sad2: I had the hardest time with the pages, keeping the right colors & patterns on the right backgrounds. Cutting them all the same time and putting them in a baggie was not a stroke of genius on my part. :rotfl2:

1. both choices 1 and 2. I you go with Choice one.....I can start making things early.

2nd question for pages
Would you be interested in a use your stash group -- yes

3rd question for pages
What do think of the blank topper requirement? Keep it? Drop it? Expand it somehow (please give me an idea) Maybe a topper area ( an einot just a box that is 8 by 2.....or maybe a 1/2 sheet of paper so letters can be cut. SOrry no better ideas.

HI Susan!
Banana and I are really looking forward to this one!
I would be interested in both pages and elements.
I like the idea of preset color groups and there is no wording on the topper.
Personally its less work for me!:goodvibes
I would probably take one of those specialty groups just to try it. It sounds interesting. Would you give us choises or pick for us? I wouldnt mind you picking for me!
Are you going to have a Kiddo group? If not, can Banana participate if I run quality control on her?
Looking forward to this!:hippie:

Color swap is my favorite - it's easy and it's useful. I use my color swap up easily. I also would like a kids group. Amourecat would really like to participate. I'll look forward to participating. After all, DH can't fuss too much over one swap in 9 months.

Definitely no wording on any toppers. For the pages though, do we want to keep the standard 8x2 a requirement or just leave it as make sure there a spot for a title to go ?

I love this swap- I'm up for any and all of the above. I will have to find a buddy because I will be taking kids to summer camp that day. DS is going to sleep away camp and DD is going to ballet camp. So, it will be a really busy day!
S :)

To clarify, in the element and page groups, you can use any patterned paper that falls in with the color you chose.

I agree with you about using stash on pages -- I did that for my October calendar pages and it was way too much work. I think it is easier with elements too.

I'm sure we can find a buddy for you.:thumbsup2

I find it easier for me to think that I need a 8x2 topper and make one than to make something that is supposed to be a "topper". If I want to add wording somewhere else then I make it into an element. Make senxe?
Also, I know that there have been some changes to the element requirements but to me I will most likely always embellie in two ways now that I have been "trained" that way. I dont like change.:goodvibes

Hmm, I haven't done any of the color swaps in the past, I think I may have to try this one.
I like the elements- maybe 2 elements or a photo mat and 2 elements. I like the groups with the pre-set colors. Also, I love the idea of doing an element from a specific line with the bazzill to match. Your example would be perfect, I love that line. :)

I was putting pages into an actual book (imagine!) today and saw some color swap items and was just thinking about this.

I only do elements so here's my opinions..

1st question: How many elements? I like two to three depending on the definition of an element.

2nd question: How many ways embellished? I am not fond of the two ways embellished but at the same time embellishing something generic like this is really important so I think paper type included as an embellishment (frosted etc paper). is good.

3rd question: How would you like the groups set up? I like both - I really like having a lot of green or a lot of red to use but then also some variety.

4th question for elements
Would you like a use your stash group? not for me personally

5th question for elements
I would like to have a few other groups if there is interest. I would research and pick a basic grey line (or other line -- I am open to suggestions) that seems readily available. Not for me either - did swaps on another board with specific colors and it drove me nuts! Others love it though - nice page kits for sure.

mememememem:banana: :yay: I love the colour swap, and I love both mixed and single colour groups:goodvibes Only want elements, not pages though.

Much as I love Basic grey, I don't like being constrained to specific colours and brands as I tend to use what I have (yes I buy extra, but I but in advance for a swap because I generally have to order form the US to get what I want) so anyhting really restricted means I might be late.

Tora UK would probably be up for it (not sure about Kicky).

I'd like mat and box plus other elements - two mats takes a LOT of cardstock, I know you can get three from a sheet but in a group of 8 that's 6 sheets just on that with not much left for other stuff. I use a lot of mulitpacks and stacks rather than ordering specifics, so I have to be a bit tight with supplies;)

Hey Mazda -- if you are using 12x12 paper, you should be able to get 4 5x7 (or 4 1/2 x 6 1/2, 4 1/4 x 6 1/4) mats. THere was a technique thread on this...I'll have to see if I can find the link for you.

Glad you will be joinging us. I will be having mostly groups in which specific paper is NOT required. I like the one mat and one box + element format too. Would you like to see mat & box +1 or mat & box + 2?

For both pages and elements, I'd like the groups to be single color as well as mixed with set colors listed prior to sign-up. I like DisneyRider's idea of a color combo group.

On elements, I like the mat & box + 1 idea. I prefer embellishing 2 ways, but I know many don't. I'll go along with whatever!!:)

On the pages, I like there being a topper, but I don't necessarily like it always being 2x8. I think letting the swapper design the topper (leaving it blank) to fit the page is my preference.

I also like the idea of a using your stash.

I don't know that I'd sign up for the specific line group. I'd have to think on that one and see what the choices were before deciding.

Just a thought, but for groups, what about having some groups of colors that fit a theme? Like maybe a spring group where the color choices are all pastels, or an outdoorsy group with browns and greens, or a happy group with all bright bold colors, or an autumn group where the colors are browns, burnt orange, gold, etc. But they wouldn't be made specifically (like with the word Spring on it) for that theme, just with those colors. Just an idea that popped in my head!

I do have a ton of basic grey (my mom's favorite line)
I would do a line swap
I would like some photo mats mostly they seem to help me the most and I end up using a journal box for the photomat any ways.
I like toppers more and more but i agree to leave the space blank.
