has anyone ever done an intensive driving course, or know of someone who has?

The reason for asking is that I'm taking driving lessons, I can only go out at weekends due to work and family life, at present I’m doing one lesson a week for two hours, I have just bought myself a little run around which I get to drive home from the station every evening but finding the time for more driving is very difficult as DH travels most of the week and I don't like to impose on MIL for more of her time so at this rate it will take me forever to actually sit the test.

Was just wondering if anyone had any experience of trying to cram in the hours over a week rather than months. If so what did you think? did you pass first time? if not did it at least help?

If anyone can help I would appreciate it

Hi Annmarie, my friend did a weeks residential course for her motorbike exam, I know its slightly different as she already had 'highway code' knowledge but she enjoyed it and passed first time, I'm a believer in that you don't really start learning until you're out there on your own anyway so I'd say go for it, it may be pricey but you'd be that geared up to pass (pun intended!) that it would be worth it :sunny:

Hi there

As Carol said, the intensive course is a very good idea, I took and passed my bike test after 2 1/2 days of intensive training.

The quicker you can learn the skills, and sooner you can take the test after learning those skills, the better.

As Carol also said, you only really learn when out there on your own, and putting thousands of miles under your belt.

Please, whatever you do, remember that bikes are there, they are smaller, and it hurts them a lot when you hit one :-), and we all need to get somewhere :-)

My DF & his sister both did it over a week (DF also did bike in a week aswell). Neither of them passed 1st time but that had nothing to do with the intensive course & more to do with them!

I wish I had had the chance for an intensive course, It seems like forever when it is just 1 or 2 hours a week.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'm really setting my mind to doing this especially if DH and I have to keep going out, we may end up divorced before I pass

Thanks for those sites Tim will have a look at them tomorrow.

Jodie, I understand that passing first time isn't guaranteed, especially when the nerves kick in, but I take it they did eventually pass? what I would be interested to know was did they feel they passed quicker having done the course?

Thanks again all

Neither of them passed first time & DF cant remember wether his sister passed 2nd or not (given her driving skills 10 years on I would say it's a miricle she passed at all!)

DF did pass 2nd time HOWEVER The test at the end of his week was cancelled and rescheduled for a month later and he failed, he then re-took it after about another month and passed. He didnt have any lessons at all after his week other than the one prior to his test.

I did a 3 month course with BSM and passed first time :cool1: .

Thinking about it it was probably for so many hours and, as I only had one lesson a week, it took 3 months.

The worst three months of my life............... :rotfl2:

I did one a few years ago at Blackpool. Unfortunately my instructor was hired purely for that week and wasn't really bothered. I had taken lessons but needed to pass in a hurry because of a job. Anyway I spent most of the week driving around and not learning manoeuvres so when it came to the end of the week I didn't take my test. I complained to the owner who had taken me around at the end of the week and they did refund half of the cost, and then I took a lesson everyday when I got home. I put in for my test and luckily passed so it all worked out in the end. I am not sure how many passed on the course but I know not everyone did. For anyone who has had lessons I would say go for it as once you have the basics its a good way to put it all together quickly and doing it everyday makes it easier.

I have no advice but I wanted to say Good Luck :)
