Integrity in VMK

This has been something I have been bothered by for a long time now. In playing VMK I have come across so many people that do dishonest things. Some of them are obviously kids, so I give them some leeway for not knowing but I have seen so much.

Players that cheat and take things in trade by tricking someone out of it.
Players that lie, they say things are rare, they say they have inferno and do not, they say they have special codes that do not exist.
Players that beg for things.

Aren't kids being taught not to steal, like and beg? It's a virtual world and parents are not always watching what these kids are saying but then it comes to integrity. Even though you might be able to get away with it, don't they feel inside that it's wrong?

In a day of trading if I said that half of the people that lied to me about the rareness of something didn't know better, that still leaves and alarming number of players trying to cheat. The reason I feel they are kids is don't they look at the player and realize they have been playing a long time and will not be easily be duped out of something?

I guess my message to the kids out there is why not play the game honestly? It might be cool to have inferno or a princess dress but at the cost of your integrity?

All in all I believe that they are nore good players than bas as I believe in the world there are more good people than bad but in playing a game marketed to kids 8-12 I get so worried when I see what is going on.

I totally agree. I have seen alot of this lately & I wonder if these kids are being banned at all? Some players are getting really mean & nasty. Its really sad to see kids act this. I also hope people will pay more attention to their kids habits especially on the computer.

I agree with this too. I have been playing vmk since day 1 and have seen lots of unfair trades. The thing I hate the most is when people trade you non-matching teleporters. I have a room full of them and can't use them. I was in trade a few weeks ago with someone that wanted my Indian and Cowboy costumes. I had extra, so I didn't mind. He offered to give me a set of Train teleporters and a set of Stitch teleporters for them. I explained to him that I don't take teleporters in trade because of all the dishonest people that trade them. He promised me that they matched and said he completely understood because it has happened to him before. So I started to feel bad. I told him I would accept the trade but if they did not match I would report him. He again promised me they matched even knowing he would get reported. Well, spurprise, surprise they did not match. I went to staff and reported it and they were great. They asked me to trade the teleporters to them and wait a few minutes for them to return. He then came back with matching teleporters for me and said they dealt with the other player. I just don't understand how people can do this. It is very disturbing to me.

This is awful. My nine year old daughter was being convince to "pay" today by a person in a room and she wasn't the owner. I grabbed the keyboard and typed in "My mummy won't let me" and the other person said "Sorry to have bugged you"

Then tonight, I log on, take a Pirates ride (which by the way was very neat) and a girl at the end wanted to trade me a Ned pin. I said, "I am a mummy, not a little girl" "And you should be sad" "you are trying to trade bad for good"

Needless to say, that was the end of that.

Be careful about the Mummy stuff, VMK could get their panties in a bunch and ban you. They get so uptight about talking about who you are in real life.

I would hate to see one of the good guys get slapped on the wrist!

That is good to know. I did not know that they were worried about that. I am just trying to keep tabs on my kids!

I will be more careful

i agree with what you are saying, its really sad seeing kids like that, and i have noticed lately that people on VMK are being very rude, I assume they may be kids ( no offense to any kid who play) but, i also think they should not cheat lie or steal VMK was most likely made to have fun and be troublefree but this is getting out of hand, and there has been a lot of the "free inferno" stuff going on too. I have seen people say that you can win inferno in "there" game, and some guests say they have inferno and they are gonna trade it, scammers definentily. And i do think kids should know better and play "responsibly" (sorry if i did not spell that right)

I know what you mean Lisa. I'm not a big trader, so I just ignore trade requests usually. But recently, I've been looking for something. So I decked out a couple of mules and put a "looking to trade for" in their signature. I can't believe all the people who have tried to scam me. I know better than to fall for the tricks I've seen, but it makes me sad for all the newbies who don't know any better and might fall for the tricks.

Yes it is out of hand. I saw this kid trying to scam someone so i reported him, and got the usual "just ignore him response from vmk"

So, sure enough he eventually hits trade with me. He hasnt said a single word to me, mind you.

So, i start thinking, maybe vmk is right. Ignore huh? This could work, with a modification or two...

I get evil when i get my "pants in a bunch" as lisa says lol.

So, instead of CLICKING on the ignore player button when i was asked to trade, i did NOTHING. I just left the room, walked around vmk, did a jungle cruise or 2, and all the while the little "Do you want to trade with ... " window was on my screen.

So after about a 1/2 hour, this kid tracks me back down, and finally says. "Hey you, hit accept or no because i can not trade with others until you do".

hmmm, you don't say? :rotfl2:

So i replied "I know, and no i am not ready to click yet"

He then replies "I will just report you then"

And I reply "yes please have staff come here, so i can report you for bother(ing) people with trades and not asking them to trade before you do"

And followed that up with a "Maybe you can ask next time before clicking trade. people will click fast then"

poof, he was gone. :teeth: ;)

May not work for everyone, but since vmk in their infinite wisdom chose to do nothing, i decided to have a little fun.

I know what you mean. I was hanging out with Pixie-Stick (Dagny) in a trade room yesterday. Some people where offering up items and wanted alot for them. I had to say - that is a little rich you may want to reduce your offer. I am sorry I had to give my opinion, just to help out - well was not taken to kindly.

Another one wanted a crown for a princess top. I said crown is worth more - and then I was called a dumbo, ugly, and the Jersey Shore. That girl was sent right out of VMK. (Report Button is a Friend of Mine)

My girls do not play this without me being there. Not that I watch every move, but we are in conversation with what they are doing.

With beggers, who cry how poor they are, I always say is this something you would do in rl? In most cases, they say no and I say - well do you think it is right doing it here? Some kids say no and then apologize. Unfortunately, there are alot of kids who just do not get it or just do not have the parental support that is needed.

<off SoapBox>

Could it be adding to the problem to have a lack of guardian accountability?

My son's schooling system - he goofs or someone is bothering him, I have two-way communication with the school and am able to be involved.

Now compare that to VMK, in my experience Staff takes no responsibility for alerting a parent when a kid steps out of line or needs help. My kid was once being harrassed and my letter to Staff basically came back with "just have the kid report the harrassing player," which he had already done. They also said "we have no way of even knowing if you are really his parent."

Could point, VMK Staff. But shouldn't you know?

-shrug-

Pondering... what do y'all think?

Exactly the same as me, I can not beleive all the offers of Purple Doors that are in fact PINK!

One person ask that I trade the Hat I was wearing at the time (Black Ears)for a NPC Pin and pirate at the helm table!

Those are the middle of the Road Bad Offers!

I was also involved in a trade with another DIS member that did not turn out well. Which I truly hope that they were telling the truth and not scamming me. Giving them the benefit of the doubt. But I will not be trading any room codes from this day forward.

My problem is the people who have rooms set up that say Free Stuff Leaving VMK. I actually went into one and she had alot of quest stuff. When it was my turn she took the item out of the room and put it into the trade screen. I said thank you very much and accepted. She never accepted and booted me. Another dis person was in the room before me and I never got to ask him if the same thing happened to him. Anyway, I logged back into VMK with my other person and went to the room. The owner left for a minute and someone was actually telling all the people it was a scam and that when you got up to her she actually booted you. Well I hit the Report button on her and got the standard thank you for reporting message. I hope she got the big ban for that. I have her name written down so I know not to deal with her again.

Also yesterday I was in a room and a girl was trying to convince me that if I traded her all my pins she could turn them into Inferno. :rotfl2: I exited that trade real quick.

Mike thanks for the tip next time someone tries it on with me they may find themselves unable to trade for hours ;) :lmao:

Nope not the only one -I've been guilty of it too- and once even left my character dancing in one of my rooms while I did laundry and dishes and left the little box sitting there.

DH was thrilled when he first discovered that by not closing the box the person was unable to trade with anyone else - he takes pleasure in these things...

I agree there are a lot of kids out there that just are rude and obnoxious and their parents have no idea what they are doing- and probably really don't care as long as kid isn't sassing or in the way

Then there are the kids who are really good kids but have learned from the rude and obnoxious ones- and like KrazyPete said on the taken thread- if you redirect them without yelling at them in the game- they usually do really good when you run into them again.

I did have some random girl come into my Zeta Haunted room while I was working on it- she was talking to me and not being obnoxious so I didn't worry about it- then some of her friends came in- and they were doing the baby thing- and I told them to stop or boot -that I didn't like it personally and if they wanted to do it to go somewhere else. Ended up booting one girl and others stopped- well then next day this same girl comes back in and tries to convince me to be her mummy- I said "no I have enough kids in real life" (yeah I sort of expected the big white glove to slap me there) and that I wouldn't play that game- and again said do not do that here or boot- Then she starts asking for all my stuff- so I log off- log on later and take her off the friends list- not sure why I accepted that one anyway...

I think some of the kids just don't know what is out there in the game- have no idea what all they can be doing- and I'm the one who when the kids say, "I'm Bored!" or something similar- I'm quick to suggest that they log off the computer and go play outdoors- or read a book- or do some homework - or clean their rooms- I know at home it works with my kids when they are bored and I offer them some suggestions- the suddenly get un-bored really quickly lol

Basically, I think people stink, but there are a lot of good people out there,
too. I think kids want to push the limit of what's right and wrong.

I also think that some scammers were regular players who want "revenge" for
their losses, so they learned the behavior from VMK. That's just a theory.

But my favorites are those who immediately offer teleporters in the trade box
with lesser cost furniture. I told the player that I don't accept teleporters.
And I close the trade window.

I've also been in a friend's room when a stranger hits me with a trade popup
window, and I've left it open just so my friends wouldn't get hit with the
window.

Last night, I really had a good laugh at the Mansion. One player started up
with, "I've got a deal for you." And then proceeds to offer pins to any
players who play all purple against him and win the game. I laughed and
said "No deal", then played Mansion with Cookie and others.

Later, at closing, I was in Out's space river room when who should show up?
The kid with the "great deal". When I said, "Oh look who's here.
It's the dude with the great deal.", he left the room really quickly. LOL!

I had no idea about that Trade window and keeping them hanging forever. I love it!!! :cool1:

I hope they were not scamming you also.

Due to some recent bad trading experiences, I now check the persons signature to see if they are Dis. If they do not have Dis in their signature I cancel the request. Hopefully by doing this I will minimize future bad trade experiences

Thanks Mike for the tip. I didn't know that if you did not accept, ignore or cancel the trade that it left the person in limbo. Great to know for the next time I am being pestered by a person.
