My 4yr old son has been in a power chair since he was 3. When we got it my concern was what would happen if we were in a car accident and the chair would get damaged. I called our auto insurer up and they said it wouldn't be covered, don't blame them it's a 30k chair. They said to call my home insurance so I did. They said normally they do but being that he was 3 at the time they said no. To add it to our policy they also want to cover him for liability incase he hit someone while driving it. Being on the coast of Florida he have very very very limited options for home insurance. Has anyone else been able to find a separate insurance policy just to cover the power chairs?

I had problems getting my scooter insured too. It did finally get covered under a rider policy that covers motorcycles, ATV's, PWC, golf carts and snowmobiles. My Mother knows exactly what policy to ask for, but she is asleep right now. I will ask her tomorrow and let you know what kind of policy to ask for.

Try getting an inland marine policy or umbrella policy on your homeowners. This is the ideas that she has.
