we booked thru holiday city with travel city direct last may the shops were taken over by travel care our booking was ok but now they say insurance comp have gone into liquidation and we have problems getting cover for mum in law as she has preexisting med cond and travel care wont cover her they say we now have to pay for her insurance they;ve covered the rest of us! but other companies say we need cover together and a quote from medicare was£835 if we have to pay this we cant afford to go but it looks like they will not give our money back!! we're due to go end aug the insurance was free as an incentive to book early any one got any advice?

It's a bit of a problem I am afraid. pre-existing condition is usually in the very small print of most insurance cover and even if it isnt they would most likely still turn down a claim when they found out as it would be regarded as a "material fact".

I dont understand the bit about having to insure everyone together though - providing you have proof of cover for everyone that should be sufficient. You might need to push this a bit with them.

While you will have to pay more for her (depending on what the condition is) you should be able to get something a lot cheaper than that virtually anywhere (again depending on her condition).

You might need to go to an Insurance broker to get it sorted though. This wont cost you anything as they will get commission on the policy from the Insurer. (look up a local one in the phone book) but before you accept the cover check back with the holiday company that they will accept the different cover you are getting.

Sorry I cant be more helpful but the Insurance industry like a lot of things at the moment are all trying to cut costs & reduce claims.
