Hello folks, I'm off for my first USA trip to orlando this April and would appreciate some advice on insurance. There's two of us going (we're friends, not family) and we'll probably be after a single trip cover.

Can anyone recommend a decent value but GOOD company to take a policy out with?

Thanks in advance.

I'm an insurance underwriter and I can honestly say that there is no easy answer to which company to pick. My advice would be to get a few different quotes, read the policy wordings / key facts documents and then decide which best suits you. It won't necessarily be the cheapest one so beware!

Maybe you could try going to an insurance broker - they will be able to do you quotes with a lot of different comapnies and explain the different benefits. You don't have to take the policy through the broker though - a lot of companies deal direct as well. Broker's work off of commission and have their own admin fees so dealing direct with an underwriter is often cheaper.

Make sure you disclose any pre-existing medical conditions as most companies will exclude these unless they are disclosed and agreed prior to inception of the policy.

also, if you intend to go away more than once this year it could be worth taking out a worldwide annual policy rather than two or three single trip policies.
