Insurance...yes or no?

DH and I went to Disney for our honeymoon. We got married February 16, 2003, the day of the big blizzrd, yup 27+ inches of snow on our wedding day.

First, the trip got delayed a day because the airports were closed, insurance covered the transfers.

When we got to Disney, we thought we were finally going to have some fun. Well, we did for about 2 days tops. Somehow, I managed to rupture a disc in my back. My entire back went into spasm and I couldnt move for 5 days. 2 trips to the ER, countless shots of pain killers and muscle relaxers and several bottles of pills later, I could finally go home.

Well thanks to the insurance we were able to recoup about 1/2 the trip cost, plus medical expenses not covered by my insurance.

I am a healthy person. We had no idea I have a bad back.

Always buy the insurance!

we bought insurance to cover the three of us on the cruise plus our roundtrip airfare. we had a terminally ill relative, and were concerned that we might have to cancel our vacation at the last minute. the amount of the insurance is more than worth it for the peace of mind you get in return.

I couldn't find a company on the net that specifically stated tickets "purchased" through the use of frequent flyer miles would be covered somehow.

We were coming in to Orlando the day before our cruise, so we weren't worried about missing the flight.

At the Radisson, we met a family at the pool. They did not purchase any trip insurance prior to their cruise. They weren' t going on DCL, but I don't recall the cruiseline. Their son broke his leg about 2 days before their cruise. He was going to be stuck in a wheelchair for the duration of the cruise. His leg had not been casted yet - I really don't recall the specifics. The family really regretted not having the insurance, as they would have rescheduled. They just felt that they couldn't waste the money they already had spent on the vacation.

Buy it! But probably on your own, since it will be cheaper. We got hit with Norwalk on our last cruise, and insurance paid off for the 2 days we missed out on everything. So even if you're on the ship, with your luggage, there is the potential for needing insurance. Others have probably already pointed out the cost to medivac if needed. Looking at the price WDWmom got, it would be worth it for the peace of mind!
