I just got quotes for travel insurance and I could not tell it is too late to purchase the policy. All I am worried about is trip intreuption. It was on the quote. So does this mean it is not too late?

It is probably fine - you just may not be covered for pre-existing health conditions. Just to be sure call the 800 number and ask a representative.

You can ABSOLUTELY purchase travel insurance after your final payment has been made, just not through DCL (and that's actually a GOOD thing, I wouldn't recommend DCL insurance anyway).

Go to www.insuremytrip.com and click on QUOTES and fill in the form...you'll find MANY options that are affordable and give you the coverage you need.

Enjoy your trip! :)

Heather this is exactly where I had already been to get quotes. I have two great quotes. I am just waiting on DH to pick one.

As far as pre-existing I alread her that, RKB. But thankd anyway.

All I am worried about is the Trip Interruption part. We do not have anything that we know of that is pre-existing. I am more worried about a hurricane in September than anything else.

We will be traveling in July next year around this time and my family today tol;d me they are all worried about the hurricanes too! What does the trip interruption cover? :confused3

I have made a thread to find out exactly. I know I have read about it covering hotel costs. Not sure about what else.

it can also cover airfare as well. Usually anything that is prepaid that you want to have reimbursed should you not travel.

Glad to see this post, I wanted to wait to purchase until we were 90 days out and nonrefundable (seems silly to purchase beforehand and end up being able to get your DCL money back but not your insurance cost). I just wasn't sure how far out I could push it. No pre-existing conditions here, unless you count a messed up thryoid. So, aside from the occasional hot flash and the extrememly unlikely threat of a goiter, I don't think it will be an issue :rotfl:

Ok, I am going to buy some, but I do not know which one to buy. Can anyone give me some advice.

First and foremost all I am concerned about it trip interruption. I just want to be prepared if we wind up having to stay out of town a few more days then planned.

Now with that being said, I am looking at a cheap plan that is only $40 for two people. It gives me everything I feel I need. When I compare this to the other policies the price goes up at least $26. Some are even double. When I compare those with the cheap one I can not see where the other policies are any better for what I want it for. Would you go ahead and purchase the cheap policy? My Dh will not help here. He said just to do what I thought was best. Really the only difference at all is the amount you get for medical and accidential death.

Ok, I'll throw in some other things to consider.

First, as to trip interruption--you usually can't get more than your original trip cost, although some policies do set an amount per day. Most will pay your actual expenses (hotel, meals, etc.) that were "extra" because your cruise was delayed or whatever. They will also cover any costs for cancelling/changing flights. This part is fairly straight forward.

Now...look at your health insurance. Does it cover an air evacuation if needed? Does it cover medical care out of the US? What about an "out of network" physician or hospital? If all of these things are covered on your health insurance, you might not want to pay to have them covered on your trip insurance. But if they are not covered on your health insurance, consider that a helicopter evacuation from a ship can cost as much as $25K! Do you have enough money or insurance to cover that?

Your trip insurance will cover things like this....also some reimbursement for things like lost luggage (you may have to buy some clothing for the cruise if your suitcases don't make it to MCO), etc. What they will cover depends on the fine print in the policy.

Most of us think of covering the cost of the cruise, but the medical can be a whole lot more.

Thanks so much for your opinion.
Actually the policy I am looking at covers all of the things you mentioned very well. When compared to the more expensive ones it really held it's own. When I did see differences they were with Air fair, baggage loss and baggage delay. One, we are not flying so that is not a big deal. Two, we will have our luggage until we board due to not flying. Three, the policy still had a good limit for this, just not as much at the other two. However, it is only a 3 day cruise. How delayed can it get? Delay and lost are two different things so it would come evenually. Besides we will have it with us until we give it to the gentleman at the port. I honestly am not too worried about this. The Travel delay is a good amount as well. I mean if we are not cruising we will high tail it home. Or if it is going to be a day or two we might not be able to go anyway, due to our jobs. So as long as it has the above and the cancel part I think I am fine.

But I still would like to hear what anyone would like to say. Just please do not bash me. :rotfl:

No one will bash you. You are just looking for some advice. If the policy you are looking at has all the criteria you need, then that is the one you should get. If it happens to be less money than another company, even better. I looked at several. I chose the Travelex Lite because the coverage was fine. If I remember correctly it had lower travel interuption, lost luggage, etc. amounts, but it gave me $50,000 medical coverage including evacuation. I have great health insurance that would have reimbursed me for any issues if it exceeded the 50K, so we decided to go with that one. It was, I think, $79.00 for two adults for cruise coverage and airfare for a 5 day cruise this past January. I decided to self insure the 80 cents that would have bumped my premium up by about $30.00. The company was fine to deal with and I had no issues concerning a claim, so everything went very well. Good luck deciding, but if the inexpensive one meets your needs go with it.

I guess I just hate making decisions. At least big ones that include my DH. I don't want to hear I told you so. LOL

I think I am going to go with the cheap one because it has all we need on it.

Good for you and don't let him do an I told you so, because he said "you choose". Although you should be fine and won't have to make a claim anyway. :boat: pirate:
