Am I doing something wrong? I swear it seems like we are not supposed to go on a cruise.

In another post I estimated the cost of insurance at $300 and was told we could get it much less than that. I just filled out a quote request with insuremytrip and the least expensive package policy is $462 and they go all the way up to $1,342. This is estimating our non-refundable costs at $4,500 (which doesn't seem extraordinarily high).

This quote is for DH (53), myself (46), DS (17) and DD (16) from 10/6/06 to 10/15/06.

If DS didn't want this cruise so bad for his graduation/birthday trip I swear I'd just bag it and go back to WDW. :sad2:

i just plugged in the information you had in your post into insuremytrip.com and came up with package policies ranging from $171 to $392.

at first i plugged in your figures and came up with the same price range you saw for coverage, but i realized i had put in $4500 in the PER PERSON field rather than the total trip field. when i fixed that, it gave me the $171 to $392 range.

when you do the quote, if you can, always put in a combined amount of the trip instead of the per person amount. what happens is that it divides the amount evenly between the 4 people you have, even though you and dh might cost more than your kids.

also, most insurers will cover kids under 18 for free when traveling with parents. we went with travelex's travel plus and didn't have to pay to cover dd.

call AAA you don't have to pay for the kids insurance. it was alot cheaper for us to go through them. even if your not a member, it may be less to get a membership. good luck!

Oh thank you so much!!! I was putting the total amount of the trip in the "per person" column. How stupid of me. I am getting much better prices now, like you said. I was so dreading having to go back to DS and say we need to come up with a plan B.

Sorry for going into panic-mode and overreacting. Too bad I don't drink. I could use one about now!! ;) Diet coke will have to do!!

Yes, do check Accessamerica.com for their AAA family plan. You don't need to belong to AAA to get this but you do need to call them to have it work. Kids are free but IDK the age restrictions. I would think 18 would be good but IDK. That will save you alot & they are the same company that DCL uses...only much cheaper!
