Hello!

I was wondering what your preference was for vacation insurance for a Disney trip? Do you buy the insurance from Disney? Or has anyone used insuremytrip.com? Or what about CAA??

I've heard the Disney insurance doesn't cover much...

Thanks!! :)

I got insurance through my MasterCard. It was a pretty good deal and was quite comprehensive.

We recommend our clients take something other than disney insurance as it tends to be pricier and covers less.

Check with CAA for pricing, we tend to offer the best value. There are also other companies that will insure you medically, when insuring for cancellation you tend to have fewer options. If looking for canc. as well...with Caa you need to do it within 48 hrs of booking trip. (exceptions can sometimes be made)

Please keep in mind when purchasing insurance, be careful. If it is trip cancellation, you have to have an extremely valid reason. If it is health coverage you may not want to bother as that may or may not be covered under a company plan depending where you work.
Our last 2 trips I haven't bothered with trip insurance, nor health as it was covered under our company plans. And even with the insurance you still have costs upfront, to justify reimbursement.
My mother got sick at Disney last year, she got sick 2 days after we arrived. Eventually it got so bad we called the medical service on site and they wanted 200.00 to come to the hotel to look at her.
She was scheduled to leave on a trip shortly after our return which I had to cancel and it took months to get the money back due to paperwork.

My DD is in WDW right now as a CM in the College Program. It was mandatory that she have full medical/trip insurance and their's was pricey with a pretty low cap. I purchased unlimited for her through RBC for less money.

I really think RBC have great travel protection.

I just returned 2 weeks ago and had to use my medical insurance for the first time. Following the directions of the insurance company I called there 1-800 number prior to seeking treatment. They arranged for a doctor to come to my hotel room to see me, that doctor arranged for a precription to be delivered to my room. I was responsible to pay the $38 for the meds (which will be re-imbursed) and thats it.

As someone who sells insurance at CAA daily I can tell you, not all policies are created equal. As well 95% of the complaints we get are from the people with the glazed look on their faces saying yeah yeah whatever as you are trying to explain the conditions and limitations. Then when they need the insurance they don't have a clue as to what they need to do or what they are covered for.

Like anything when buying do your homework. Price should not be the sole factor in buying insurance. I for one believe RBC to be about the best there is (do not sell RBC at CAA anymore btw). We sell manulife at CAA and it also seems to be comparable. When purchasing cancellation insurance keep in mind it does not cover change of mind. It is cancellation for valid and approved reasons. Some will cover for loss of job as well. No insurance policy will cover a pre existing condition, some will if a minimum stability period has been reached.

Know what you are buying, review it when you get home...have questions call and ask them. At CAA we will refund the policy prior to trip...take it home read through it...see stipulations you don't agree with, cancel and get a refund. People will say all the time it is too much hassle for a $20 travel medical policy...too many questions, too much paperwork....go to the states and get in a serious accident...that $20 could have saved you a million.

I couldn't agree more

ONCE we travelled (to WDW as it turns out!) and did not purchase travel insurance of any kind. I 'thought' my credit card had us covered :sad2:

Long story short, husband passed out on a Disney bus, it was New Years Eve...standing room only, sweat was dripping off the inside of the windows and the roof vent would not open. He ended up in Celebration Hospital for 15 hours for some tests and observation. The bill?? $17,000! WHen I travel now, I am the MOST over insured person you'll ever meet!

Protect your investment of travel. You'll be glad you did trust me.

The reservation guy at Disney told me it wasn't worth it to purchase it (bless his heart!), as the most you are on the hook for is $200, five days out. We did purchase trip interruption/cancellation - all you need is a bad ear infection to kabosh a trip - it is expensive $248 RBC to insure our $2000 flights but worth the heartache. Check into your insurance through work though, just reviewed mine and it said it recommended that you purchase extra as it was not comprehensive due to the huge costs of hospitalization outside of Canada. Need to check hubbies to see if we can combine them both.

I usually do not normally buy medical insurance becuase my work plan covers us while travelling out of country.

When we went on our cruise I did buy cancellation insurance from RBC becuase I was worried about something going wrong and delaying us to the point where we missed the Wonder. Usually I do not buy trip interuption becuase the most I could loose is a change charge on my airfare and one or two night hotel.

I ended up collecting for one day that my DW missed out on the cruise due to illiness. She was confined to our cabin after having a bought with a norwalk type virus. I filed a cliam and they gave us back one day. Paid for the insurance.

There are some great comprehensive travel insurance including with work plans...also some not so great ones.

We have run across situations where a work plan has a lifetime cap on your "extra" coverages...like travel, physio, and things of the like. SO the person who had a 100 000 claim while travelling...could not use the insurance for any of these extras for the life of their plan.

We have seen numerous cases where the employee pays up front and then has to get reimbursed when they get home (after dealing with ohip first).

The average med policy will sell for a family of 4 (with parents under 55) is under $45. To me just not worth the risk.

Can I ask a question about insurance. We will be going on a cruise, 2 adults, both 56 yrs. We were quoted insurance with RBC coverage for $3,000 coverage, non medical for 15 days for $290 and deluxe for $354 for both. How does it work cost of cruise , age, x days. Does that sound ok. Would it be better to go with CAA.
