Does anyone have any experience using the Magic Bands with an insulin pump. I have heard that Medtronic does not like the bands to be close to the pump, while Animas has said it is fine...any personal experience here? Also - anything on Omnipod? We are in the market for a pump, and as Disney faithful, this WILL be a pro or con in the debate on which pump we choose for DS5. :)

Thanks!

My son is on a Ping and we had no issues. It actually never occured to me to ask before (whoops)

None of my contacts at any of the insulin pump companies (Tandem, Medtronic or Animas) have told me that it's a problem. If you're using Medtronic's "mysentry" AT HOME, then you are supposed to keep it a minimum distance from radio devices, but since that's not a portable device, then there really is no worry.

As for omnipod, that would be the only one that I could even imagine might have a likely interference, and that wold only be while you are beaming your bolus, and basically you have to hold the devices pretty close together anyway (less on the new pods), so it would be simple to just remove your magic band if it were on the hand you were holding your Pod PDM.

I have no experience with pumps, but couldn't stand to wear the bands as it was so sweaty. I hand it hang in my bag.

I never thought about this!! I've got an omnipod and will have a magic band for our trip next month. I want to call... But I'm wondering if omnipod will even know what the heck a magic band is to give me an accurate answer... Thoughts?? Maybe it will just be a trial and error thing? IF it does interfere... Would I know? Would it say that I can't bolus? Or maybe give a communication error? I just hope it doesn't show that everything is fine and it actually isn't...? Does that make sense?

I would expect that if the magic band messes up the omnipod, it would act like it does when the pod is too far away "communication error". And since with the new pods you practically have to stand on your head to get some pod sites close enough, you prob. will just need to have the magic band on the other hand (not the hand holding the PDM). I'll get to test this out in Feb.!!!!

The Magicbands are not going to be the issue with any of them. There is only a RFID chip in them. The issue, if there is going to be one, will be with the readers that WDW uses to read the MB's.
