I know this isn't a Fw question,(except our trailer spends more time at FW than all other trips put together. :rotfl2: ) Anyway, I was hoping to get some technical advice on replacing the carpet in our trailer with wood floor(like Bruce,or other laminated wood planks). The concern is with the slide out and whether there will be a problem with it as it moves across the wood floor.
It seems to drag quite bit across the carpet.
I have posted this on an Rv forum already, but thought I would tap the wealth of expeience here too!!!

Any advice would be appreciated. :teacher:

I tried this on our 5th wheel and it didnt work to well. It dragged quite a bit and I had to take it out. I used pergo laminate. I wound up using a good grade of vinyl which is hard to tell its not wood. You will have to take out a million staples. Also I found out that you will need to have some carpet under the slide out which will project about 6" or so.

Thanks for the information!!! I guess we will live with the laminate floor and carpet that we have now. It's fine, but I love the wood!!!

We installed pergo in our fifth wheel and it seemed to work well then I seen a small scratch so we went out and bought a very thin rubber mat at Lowes cut it to the length of slide, so we put that down before we slide in the slide out to protect the floor working ok so far.

If you had carpet before the pergo, did the slide drag on it pretty heavy? Ours carpet pile is pretty flat after the slide has been in and out, so I am concerned about how the wood would hold up. The mat is a great idea.
Thanks!!!

we could see some drag on our carpet when we slid it in but it wasn't real bad. We figured the carpet was thicker then the wood flooring. My brother just put flooring in that looks like wood its a laminate stick on and it looks really good he put it in his house and cant tell much its not wood. He got it at lowes or home depot and it was cheaper then the pergo. I would have probably went with that , then i wouldnt worry so much about the wood. I hope all works out for you going to FW Dec 25 to Jan 10th can't wait.
