I need some advice about installing a new kitchen floor.

I am having my kitchen completely replaced. I have a sheet of vinyl flooring (8x12) to roll out. Does anyone know if it is better to have the flooring put down and the cabinets put on top of it OR to only have the flooring go up to the base of the cabinets and then have the toe kick cover the edges?

The installer tells me he wants it to go up the base of the cabinets.
I want to put the floor down and have the base cabinets over it, but I understand that if its done that way, it would be harder to replace the floor if it wears out.

I am planning to sell this apartment within the next year or two (knock wood!), so I hope I'd be out of there before the floor starts to wear out. However, the installer is giving me a hard time about it.

Does anyone have any advice from experience? I can't find a solid answer on the Internet.

Thank you!

Off the top of my head, if you do it your way you may end up with crooked flooring.

Cabinets are not always perfect because the walls are not always perfect and if there is an "off" in the centimeters you are going to see it, esp. if you picked flooring with a pattern.

I have never renovated a room before and am learning as I go. My installer wants an answer today, so I have to get up to speed REALLY FAST.

Didn't take that into consideration. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the flooring is usually installed after the cabinets. I don't think I've ever seen the flooring installed under the cabinets.

Floors definitely go in after all cabinets.....this I know for sure. :) Enjoy your new kitchen!
