My son is hitting adolescence big time. There are the physical changes and the moodiness and dramatic displays that I thought was reserved just for girls ("Everybody hates me!!! My life is ruined!!! etc, etc.)

Sometimes it's hard to laugh, but there are some other very subtle, very cute things that happen where I see how he's growing up...

For example, yesterday we were walking through a parking lot and I stepped out when a car was coming. He grabbed my hand and pulled me back!

Anybody else?

I know he is growing up because I don't have Legos all over the floor...
and he is not interested in going with me to see the new HP movie..

This is a family board, but our shower has see through doors and when DS (13) takes a shower, I can't believe what I'm seeing! What happened to that little baby?!

try when dd gets to big to borrow dw's clothes and shoes,, at 11::( :( :( shes now 1 inch taller than mom,, and weres a shoe 2 sizes larger:( my baby is gettting big:(

She wakes herself up, showers is ready for school without a word from you. I ask her do you want me to make you breakfast, do this, that, or the other and the answer is always NO.

Then she promptly catches the bus at 7am WEARING YOUR FAVORITE SWEATSHIRT!
And yes she did that this morning.

she locks the bathroom door when she takes a shower because she's afraid someone might "see something".

I hear you Froggy. Just bought size 13 (mens!) shoes for DS 11. Poor DH wears size 6!

Briar Rose--I just put this together myself this morning. DS has been very private latlely and I figure he must be ...er... reconfiguring. I knocked on his bathroom door the other day and I guess it was not closed all the way because when I knocked it opened about 12 inches. You would have thought I was barging in with a camera crew by the way he reacted!

When my DS wouldn't give me a kiss goodbye cause that was sissy stuff! It broke my heart.

When every new pair of sandals you buy for yourself instantly becomes "community property" according to your teenage daughter!

And when your teenage son towers over you! What happened to my little guy?

of course, you have to understand...I live with my two daughters, three sisters, my mother and my father -- and after rasign four girls, my father learned a long time ago that he cannot walk into a bathroom when it's occupied.

so who's going to see "something" anyhow?

When your 25 yo comes back from her job and teaches you how to apply makeup. She never wore it before she works at Tokyo Sea!

Headphones suddenly appear as a new body part. This is new and although I was expecting him to be listening to pop, rap or something else just as weird I was a little freaked when I realized he was listening to what I grew up listening to!! I guess Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd and Zep are cool again.

Why do you watch your son take a shower?

When your son won't come to Disney with you!

When your kids hide their IM's from you:chat:

When your son goes to his first prom!:groom:

When your daughter asks you about shaving:earsgirl:

Obviously when they're driving:moped:

It's alot of fun watching them change!:goodvibes

Well last week I had a omigosh they are all growing up moment --DD 9 requested a sports bra for her track meets
DS 11 had all his long hair friends over and was playing electric guitar on the front lawn
DS13 had to SHAVE

I could feel the grey hairs popping out on my head.

. . . I'm laying in bed, unable to fall asleep because DS is out with his friends and it is past my bed time!

. . . I'm stealing my old songs from DS because he likes Aerosmith, Zeppelin, ELO, CCR, etc! Who would've thought???

. . . I'm wishing DS was starting first grade in September rather than first year in college!

they no longer want to shop in Toys R Us. they want to shop in Tower Records, Coach and Abercrombie.

When you tell your son (I think he was 12 or 13) to go wash his upper lip because it's dirty, and he tells you it's time for him to start shaving.

Flash forward 6 years, and he tells you that he spent his Friday night helping to load stretchers onto ambulances on the interstate on one of his first police ridealongs. Less than a year later he was given his own bullet proof vest by the police department. Yup, that's my little boy.

My 12yo DS is in Civil Air Patrol, which is an auxilliary of the Air Force. They wear actual AF uniforms, but with different patches. DS is 5'10", so from behind you can't tell that he's not an adult soldier going off to war. Gives this mom the chills, let me tell you. (At least from the front you can tell he's still a kid! No shaving yet, and his voice hasn't changed.)
