Ok, all you fellow porcelain skinned beauties, stand up and say it with me:

Say it loud, I'm pale and I'm proud!

Growing up as a teenager in a Florida beach town in the 1970s, I looked at my very fair, never-tans-and-only-burns skin as a curse. Fortunately, with age comes wisdom, and now that I'm in my 40s and I'm reaping the benefits that came when I gave up on trying to tan in my early 20s, I love my fair skin. Hubby thinks it's beautiful, and I get compliments on it all the time, as well as dumbfounded expressions when people find out how old I am. My inability to tan liberated me from an obligation to tan, and now I love my skin just the way it is (even living here in that same Florida beach town, where tan worship is still a way of life).

Pale is beautiful! :thumbsup2

I'm so fair skinned I'm practically clear. :woohoo:

I come from a long line of pale faces! :)

My grandmother and mother both never tanned because they'd just burn. Both aged very, very well. I did tan very well as a child, but once I hit my teen years I didn't hang out at the pool so much, and most of my activities were indoors, so I haven't had a tan since maybe I was 13. I've been pasty white ever since, in fact now a days if I don't put on sun screen when I'm outside more than 20 minutes, I fry like bacon.

I'm too young to worry about wrinkles, tanned or not, but I'm willing to bet I'll look a lot better than some of my friends in about 10 years! :)

Another white girl here! I'd just burn, then peel. I gave up tanning long ago.

When people ask what I do to look so young, I tell them "sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen".

Me,too :yay: It's always been a joke in our family--my Welsh blood doesn't allow me to be a sun-worshipper. My baby girl came out darker than me(her father's Greek  ) What with the few but severe childhood sunburns, living in the Deep South all my life, and a few basal cell carcinomas under my belt(my brother died from melanoma last year) I'm very glad I was never a sun-babe.

I quit tanning when I got pregnant with DS when I was 23. I read in some medical book that you could get sunspots by tanning when pregnant, so I avoided the sun after that. I still ended up with a couple of spots on my face that I HATE.

Tanning is SO not worth it.

I could never tan either....alays hated it as a teen with all my friends being Italian or otherwise dark skinned...now I love it ~ seeing how all my "tan-abled" friends look in their mid 30's after years of tanning and tanning beds...I'm feeling pretty good now!! :thumbsup2

Let's create a club....we could call it "Proud To Be Pale"

I have always joked that I could lay out from April to August and still be white as a ghost. I burn and peel back to white. My brother is the same way, only he gets really sick when he gets a sunburn so he really avoids the sun.

DD20 is like me, she has never had anything close to a tan. Once at a pool I was able to pick her out by the bright glare reflecting from her. DD12 takes after her dad a bit more and does get a little color just from being outside, I make sure to goop her up every time she goes out.

We'll just call you all powder! :rotfl: I have to count myself in the you all by the way. If I was naked in the snow they'd never find me! :rotfl2:

Count me in with the other palefaces. I really don't like to tan. I apply spf 20 to my face and neck every morning, and use spf 45 if I am going to be outside for an extended period. When I swim, I always wear a t-shirt over my suit for extra coverage, and I keep my hat on unless I am diving underwater. I wear long-sleeved swim cover ups and long pants to protect my legs. I wear suncreen everywhere that will be exposed, including my scalp. Always wear sunglasses with uv protection too.

It may seem a bit extreme, but my Dad has skin cancer, and I want to stay safe (and wrinkle free for as long as possible!).

Lets see, I am Frech-Canadian, Irish, Italian, German, and English. Lucky me got the only Irish genes in the family. Hi, I am Jenn, and I am pale.

I have never, ever tanned. I am a wonderful shade of sunburnt all summer long. Wait a minute, I lied. I have tanned once before. Actually can you call it a tan? It was more of a slight shade of pink. I am still young but I am hoping my fair skin will show its beauty in a few years.

Two years ago I went on a cruise with DBF's family. They are italian and cuban. Expert tanners. In the group picture I stick out like a sore thumb. :sad1:

I am one of those auburn haired, very fair skinned people. Gave up trying for a "tan" when I was 18. Burning is just no fun. Especially when it is on the top of your scalp. I just tell people to put on the sunglasses and ignore the flourescent pole lights (my legs) during the summer months.

As can be seen in my user pic, I'm so pale I glow in the dark. ;)

Another Irish/Welsh girl here! I can count on one hand how many tans I've had in my lifetime, and it took me all summer long to get them!

I haven't sat out in the sun for the reason of "getting a good tan" in over 15 years. The scare of getting skin cancer has kept me from sun worshipping.

My foundation color is "Ivory" -- that about sums up my complexion. I have red hair, too. Unfortunately, I may still get skin cancer b/c of the "tanning" (in my case, getting a burn and letting it peel off) I did when I was a teen.

I'll never get tanning beds -- has to be one of the dumbest inventions ever. I've also got past thinking tanned skin looks healthy. I've got a couple of friends/relatives who do them and it's starting to affect their skin as we get up in 40.

Mine is Clinique's "01 Soft Bisque!"

In my high school P.E. classes (hated those polyester short sets!) my friends always called me Casper. I remember trying the Q-T self tanning gunk--always woke up with orange sheets and oranger legs. Also a great source of amusement for my P.E. class.
I am very proud to say I haven't been tan in 20 years, and my kids will never be tan (not under my watch, anyway!) :sunny: (That's really not the best smiley, is it?)

I am a glow in the dark girl too.

I was asked a few weeks ago at my sons school if I was his older sister. Loved that. A few years ago I was at my oldests high school and was asked why I was not in class! They thought I was a student, lol.
