My DD is 8, and while school shopping this year- all of the pants we could find in her size were low rise.........you know the type- low rise, flare leg, etc..

She tried them on with her "normal" undies, briefs....and every single pair of pants sat a good 1- 1 1/2 " lower than the panties. now not every shirt she wears can be tucked in!

So....I decided while in Sears, to let her pick out some "bikini" panties. these are in no way string bikinis and they have a wide band around the leg, and full coverage in the back and front- but are definetly a lot "smaller" than the briefs..

Your thoughts on bikini underwear for young kids???

FYI- My DD7 does NOT have these underwear- she's still wearing 6X and they make pants correctly for this age- normal fit!

I bought some bikini panties for DD when she was about 8 for this very reason. Her pants were not ultra low but her regular panties did show. The bikini undies aren't sexy-- they are cotton made by Hanes I think with the same kind of little girl patterns. I would rather her undies not show -- nobody has to know what kind or color of undies she is wearing.

I'm torn... If I had a daughter that age, I think I would only buy one or two pairs of the low rise jeans and therefore only a few pairs of the bikini undies for them.

I'd search for normal jeans. I don't know why clothing companies want little kids to look like mini-teens! It is so unecessary!

Bikini briefs are all right, IMO, people aren't going to see her underwear anyway! String bikinis, however, are another story... There is no need for small children to own ANYTHING that could be classified as "sexy"!

Most jeans sizes 8 and up do not sit at the 'natural' waist but just below. They are not the ultra low rise that teens wear but normal 'granny panties' do show above the waist line. DD only has about 2 pair that regular undies will show and sometimes she will wear the regulars and I have to make her change.

Before someone gets enraged that I am dressing my daughter sexy-- these are NOT super low cut jeans-- they sit just below the waist nothing sexy about them at all.

I personally see no problem with cotton bikini panties for young girls if that is what they are comfortable in. It is very difficult to find regular waisted jeans these days - my DD 18 does not like the low risers and we have a difficult time finding the regular waist.

:( I hope I'm not coming across as mean or blaming or anything like that. I'm just so tired of seeing little girls dressed as women. That's all.

I agree that little girl underwear are VERY much like "granny panties" and they just don't make as much clothing that covers that much underwear anymore, do they?

LOL!

My DD7 has some bikini style underwear, like the kind SCMinnie and mudnuri were talking about, not sexy by any means, just lower cut in the waist than reg. undies, same little girl patterns. She actually likes them better than some of her briefs, because the briefs ride too high on her waist and bug her. I don't see anything wrong with them.
My DS3 can't stand his underwear or shorts to sit right at his waist. When I get him dressed he is always pulling his pants down a little so they sit just below his waist, right above his hips.
It has absolutely nothing to do with fashion (especially with DS, LOL!) or wanting to dress them more grown up. It's all about comfort for them. My DD won't even wear jeans, hasn't for 3 years. She says they're not comfortable, so all she wears for pants are leggings, knit pants and sweats. I can occasionally get her into khaki pants, but this year she tried on about 6 pairs before she finally found some that didn't "bug her".

My dd is 8 1/2 and pretty tall for her age, so she left the 4-6x says a couple of years ago. She has, since then, been wearing kids Fruit of the Loom bikini underwear. They are in no way risque cut, and actually come up pretty high in the back. They are a necessity, as had been stated, girls jeans these days, sit lower than they used to. There is no such thing as "normal" jeans in these sizes. These are Lee's, Levi's, Gap, Arizona (actually those were too low, I took them back) and that is how they all fit. They are not sleazy ultra low like teenagers jeans, but the little girls panties that she used to wear (princess designs etc) are way too high to be worn under these. Even the bikinis can show a teeny bit in the back when they sit down if their shirt is not pulled down.

Do I like this trend? No, but it's all there is out there these days, so we do what we can.
