I have too many kids to spend much $$ on their baskets-- but I don't like the teen boys to feel left out when they see the younger boys' baskets. I buy them each a new Nike ball cap, put grass in the bottom and fill it up with candy/ gum etc. Then, I throw some colored Easter basket cellophane over it and tie it up with a ribbon. They like that they are not getting the woven baskets (distinguishes them from the little kids) and they love the caps and the candy :flower: !

I would love to hear what y'all do inexpensively for older kiddos.

The gold dollar coins inside a plastic egg are always appreciated by my teenagers. And of course candy.

How about a gift card from a favorite store or for movie or game rentals? If they are into any kind of small, collectible item (baseball cards, keyrings, etc.) you could include that. Paperback books, the latest issue of a favorite magazine, word puzzle books (crossword, find-a-word, etc.) might be good. I'm also thinking that this year I'm just going to give my DS whole packages of candy rather than putting small portions in plastic eggs. I like the baseball cap idea but my DS doesn't wear them. Would love to hear more ideas for something to use in place of the traditional basket. Good thread idea, btw. :)

I used gift bags this year instead of easter baskets. Each kid gets a gift bag with things they like. My DH hates easter grass, so I just use tissue. I got each of the boys gift cards and some candy and my dd got easter goodies like jewlery and candy.

Gas cards for teens who drive is another idea - I used them for a stocking stuffer at Christmas, in a card fro Valentine's Day rather than givng candy, & I plan to give one to each DS at Easter. With the price of gas, they really appreciate it!

I'm sure gas cards are a great idea. I like the hat for the easter basket idea. I am using easter gift bags instead of baskets again this year. Too many baskets in our house. Kids are still young but not getting too much this year. DD9-1/2 getting gum, reese's PB eggs, hershey's rabbits, nail polish, Incredibles DVD, Yugio cards & chapstick. DD 21 months is getting M&Ms, hershey kisses, fruit snacks, Dr Seuss movie, sunglasses & a couple of books.

I have not bought my nephews anything yet? Don't want to spend much like $5 each. They are 10, 2, & 1. I just don't know what to get them.

DS usually gets 25 single disney dollars in some of the plastic eggs - besides his basket.
This yr since Disney Store doesnt have disney dollars until May he'll be getting 5 fives that I have already.
not sure what else - some type of reese peanut butter because I wont eat it

With ship I got a old school style Brooklyn Dodgers fitted hat for my DH for $12.56 ::yes:: He orderd another hat for himself - he will be very happy to have two hats for about the price of one!

Teens also like gift cards for 10 downloads of music from places like Napster, iTunes, etc.

I may sound like a fuddy duddy here - but no matter what the occasion I always try to make one of the gifts a book - my little ones really look forward to reading a book with mommy and the fact that books are part of their special surprises each holiday I hope will help them to learn to love books as much as I do .

So for teenagers - why not a book on some kind of topic they would find fascinating? Though goodness knows I have no clue what that would be!

I just went today to Walmart and checked the sample section. I picked up small bottles of hair gel, that god-awful smelling stuff all the kids here wear called Axe (YUCK), then I always get them new toothbrushes because with all that candy, lol. I usually get one bigger item like a DVD or music CD that the kids have mentioned. They all love cadbury eggs and reese eggs so they get those and then a 1lb solid Russell Stover bunny and a Blockbuster $5 gc and that's it.

Great ideas. I need to do something for my son. And now that Easter is a week away. I better get thinking. I know he would love a gift card. and the cap idea is great. Might save that for St. Nick next year.

Great idea. DS just bought a new Hat today. So I am sure he does not want another one so soon. He would like shoes but that would be and expensive Easter basket. LOL

But I will keep thinking.
