We all love to complain about our inlaws, some of us with good reason. ;) Snoopy had some good examples in her recent post. So what has your favorite in law done to you that makes you say...ARGH!!!!!!

My MIL has...

-Kicked me out of my own kitchen

-Come to a Christmas Eve gathering hosted by me, at my house(this was my first real time entertaining), and she sat in the kitchen, pouted, and bad mouthed me to our guests, including my own mother!

-I was home from the hospital for about 12 hours after having DS #1 when she called very early in the morning, to invite herself over(she had already seen DS at the hospital, so it wasnt like she was dying to see him). We told her no not right then, but we would hook up with her later in the day. We were still trying to figure out the whole baby thing, plus we had some stuff to do and were trying to get to my office Christmas Party by 11:00am. Not to mention the house was trashed with all the junk we brought home from the hospital, and Christmas gifts around(this was 12/20) and I am anal about people seeing my messy house, especially her who would talk about it. So after us running around like crazy doing all the feedings, bathing, etc... we were finally getting our shoes & coats on when the door bell rang. Not only did she show up after we told her not too, but she brought her friend too. Needless to say I was not too happy.

So, lets hear some good ones!:p

There isn't enough space on this website for me to truly complain about my in-laws. But in a nutshell, just last night, my FIL got thrown out of his nursing home, by the police, for hitting a resident. And that's just what happened yesterday... You can't even imagine what's gone on before that.

My MIL and I get along pretty well. I love to tell this story though. :)

She's very, very wealthy but notoriously tight with her money. For family gatherings, everyone brings a dish or two. A few years ago on Easter, she volunteered to bring a Honeybaked Ham. That in itself was unusual, because she usually brings the rolls. We brought a side dish and a dessert, and my husband's 4 siblings did the same.

At the end of the day, as everyone was preparing to go home, SHE ASKED EACH FAMILY TO CHIP IN $10.00 TOWARDS THE COST OF THE HAM!!!!

Geez, I thought I had it bad, but I think grinningghost wins the prize. :teeth:

Oh, Im sorry, but you guys have me ROFL!!!!! Keep em coming! :teeth:

My worst one was several years ago, my inlaws were babysitting. They live next door, this will be important.

While my and my husband was out togther, a rare occasion, my 18 month old daughter started crying. Well, my father in law thought that sticking his finger down her throat was the best way to make her be quiet.

My oldest, she was about 7, took kelsea and went home. They were sitting together on the couch when I got there.

No one called me.

Luckily and gratefully, they have some how gotten some sense since then.

My MIL once changed the curtains in my kitchen because she thought they would look better another way!!

Also, when I miscarried for the first time, she went into mourning. Her friends sent her cards and she couldn't bring herself to see if I needed anything (we lived downstairs from her at the time). Finally, it all came to a head and her response was that she lost a grandchild.......nothing to do with our loss.....only hers!!! I have since had 3 healthy, beautiful girls........she barely pays any attention to them!! Only pays attention to a friend of the families children!! In my opinion.......her loss!!

Another, when I was in nursing school she said all I would do was wipe peoples butts for a living........now that she is confined to a wheelchair and spends weekends with her........whose wiping whose butt!!! Boy do I think of that every time I clean her up...........I wonder if she does too..........must be eating at her!!

I could go on and on and on...........

I believe: What goes around comes around.........

GrinningGhost. Please tell me you FIL didn't get tossed out of a nursing home in Suffolk County on LI. My Dad has been threatening to have another resident at his home arrested for hitting him. What a small world it would be :)

oh my..there is NOT enought room on this internet to tell you everything..but I will give some of the highlights!

-No baby shower for any kid( while SIL had 5 baby showers(one with every kid!)

-Calls the day of any family gathering and invites us..when everbody else has known for days if not weeks..and then gets upsets if we already have plans

-very very obviously favorites other grandchildren in the presense of mine, with montetary gifts and gifts of time and attention!!

-babysits for other grandchildren basically almost anytime..where if we ask( we which we do very RARELY)..she does..but with an attitude!

-example-last weekend, all the other grandkids were there..plus SIL,BIL, and SIL..we were late..and so was another brother and his wife. She put back plates of food for the other brother and his wife..but NOT me or my husband!!(or our kids!!!), then I learn she took 3 grandchildren to the mall and bought them shoes, jeans, and coats....and then told me and my kids about it..and told me where ,what, and how much....

the list could GO on and on...and on....

OH NO, LMAO!!!!

You can't get me started..... you just can't... you'd be sorry, because days later I would still be going strong.... story after story after story.....

Oh, no I just can't!!!!!

I know if I start typing my Blood pressure will rise but here's just a few....
oh, and my condolences to all of you who've posted so far...and those who don't!

The most recent and long going...I've given her pictures of my kids for years and I go over to her house ...none of ours but all of my DH bro. and sis. kids are up...

When DS in law and I were prego at the same time she told me she wanted a baby shower for her DD...(she wasn't even in the state and had already had 3) me O.

Then when I had the baby...I had a spinal headache and
I'm laying in bed flat on my back and she walks in and sees all of the baby things we have and says....oh, thats so nice you can give that to my DD in a few weeks....even her friend said...'Geez that was rude!" She blew her off...
She didn't even look at our baby! She was just looking at what she could get for "her kids"

Then when my Brother in law gets married...we weren't invited to be in the "family" pic!....Then she asks us to stay and help clean up the wedding but the other kids were too tired!...I really popped a cork on that one...

My Dh has given money to ALL of them!(and I am talking $$$$ and they don't even acknowledge his birthday!...

Wow, that was so theraputic! LOL

My only in-law horror story is that they're both gone now. My inlaws were wonderful and treated me as their own daughter. Dad has been gone since 1994, but this will be our first Christmas without Mom. :(

I wish each of you could have as wonderful in-laws as mine.

I'm another one who doesn't have enough room here to tell you all my in-law stories....Katie...some things you wrote sound exactly like my mil especially #2,3,& 5. The worse story I have, in my loooong list would have to be the time we applied for a home equity loan only to be turned down because of our $9,000 credit card balance. Well, I pay the bills and we didn't have a cc with a balance, let alone a $9,000 one! After calling my DH and asking him if he knew anything about it...turned out he opened an account for them, since their credit was so bad, and they were paying the minimum on it each month...this was going on for over five years!!! I flipped! I didn't talk to her for three years!

Ahhhhh....Queen Mother stories....God rest her soul....Loved her children, but not me.

So many stories, so little space.

Let's see we were engaged 2 months before I met her. She took my hand in hers and said, "Oh, wasn't that the star special last month at David Weis?" I smiled and told her, no Ray actually got it as the prize in a box of Cracker Jack.

For Christmas one year she bought each of husband's BIL's 3 piece suits and I got a set of 3 Pyrex bowls.

At our reception she told the caterers to load as much food and cake in her trunk as they could. And not to mention it to anyone else.

The first night Ray was transfered from the hospital to a rehab after his spinal cord injury, I was allowed 10 min to see him and leave some clothes for him. She insisted on going with me. He was in pain and scared. As we started out of his unit she said, " I hate you for leaving him here. I'll never forgive you."

I could go on and on

Wow! Where do I start ... someone actually wants to listen to me VENT !!!!! LOL!!!!! My biggest complaint would be the way they treat dh ... latest example, he called her 2 weeks ago tommorow and we haven't heard from her yet! UGH!
Now, my biggest mad moment: 1st Thanksgiving we visited them (they live far away ... thank goodness....and the plane only goes to AZ when we are on it ... in other words, they have NEVER EVER EVER NEVER been here to SC in 9 yrs) ...anyway, 1st Thanksgiving in front of his family I hadn't met yet, they ask if we want to see the "homemade videos" because obviously "we weren't doing it right since we weren't pregnant yet"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They don't understand infertility, today (8 yrs later) that is still the HOT topic if we do talk to them. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't wish to anger Jason Lyons with my long post.

I'm loving this thread. It appears most of us have a few stories to tell. It makes me wonder what kind of MIL I'll be? ;) And no sixcats, happily my FIL wasn't harassing your Dad. I'd hate to think my FIL was driving any DIS relatives crazy. He just drives everyone else crazy. :D

These are great stories...of course, not for the person telling them, but at least we can all find comfort in each others torture. ;)
I was thinking the same thing grinning ghosts. With 2 sons, Im bound to be a MIL to someone. But I vow right now, I will not be as rude and annoying as MIL(talk to me in 30 years!);) .

i know this thread is old...but tonight was a perfect example!
My MIL called and wanted to take my husband out for dinner for his birthday.

So, he, his mom and dad are at Red Lobster right now..while..I am NOT!!!!!

Okay..is this rude or what????

I called my parents and said when my birthday comes..you are taking me ONLY out to dinner..they just laughed!!

LOL! Awww, think of it as some nice alone time Katie.

At least they are taking him out. 8 years ago, DH bought his mothers house from her. He was 26 years old, not making much money, and just bought a house/got a mortgage. His mother suggested we go out to eat to celebrate the house...with DH paying!
