Has anyone ever had the fantasisized about not buying presents until Christmas Eve and letting the chips fall where they may? I sometimes used to think how great it would be if I just went to the store at the last minute and purchased what ever I could find. Of course being the type A person that I am there is no way in this life time I could ever do that.

Fantasized? I've lived it. It used to be kinda fun....when I was MUCH younger. No more!!!

I've done that a couple of times and found that things weren't as scarce or picked over as one might think and the prices - oh my! - a quarter of what they were earlier in the season! :flower:

I've done it, and it was fun. I love shopping on Christmas Eve! The flurry of activity is exciting... to me

One year, a family my DH knew from work lost their father just before Christmas....so the night before Christmas Eve we went and picked up presents for the children and wife...I spent much more than I had planned too since I was buying things with other desperate people....I usually plan ahead and shop early. I hope they enjoyed the gifts, we wrapped them and dropped them off at their door with a note from Santa.

Shopping on Christmas Eve was a tradition for my step-father and me...

We would get up early, and spend the rest of the day shopping...'til the stores closed! We never really had a problem getting what we wanted, we had a blast, the crowds where we were were not too much of a problem...we did it for years until I moved away.

The worst part about it is the wrapping...we ended up staying up most of the night getting it done! UGH!

Oh gosh. I did it for 4 years. University exams ended on the 21st, and clearly I bought nothing before that. I would return home on the 22nd, and try to do all my shopping the next day. I didn't have a lot of people to by for so it worked out okay.

Even reading this post makes me get the shakes! I could never wait that long. I start my shopping in August. This year I started in September (bought one gift that I thought would be good for my parents), but haven't bought any since. Now that's it's November, I am almost panicking!! Yikes. I gotta get out there!!

Btw,I do the shopping for my family and make DH do the shopping for his family and he is one of those that waits til the last minute. Every year it never fails, I am out a few days before Christmas picking up items for him because he didn't get his shopping done.

And every year I swear I won't do it for him again, but I probably will this year too....

I have a recurring nightmare around Christmas time. It is almost midnight on Christmas Eve and I realize that I have not bought anything for anyone. I run to the 7-11, I have no money and they do not accept American Express :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I wake up in a cold sweat :rotfl:

Oh man, this is ME!! I always swear DH is going to buy the gifts for the males in his family. I am willing to handle the women in addition to everyone else we know, but he is SUPPOSED to buy for his dad and BILs. Does he??? NO and I always cave and do it myself! I'm such a wuss

Never did that - but when I was 18 and working the 3-11 pm shift at the local truckstop, I had a local lady pop in at 7:30 pm on Christmas Eve and do all her shopping in our very small, very truck driver oriented Traveler's Store! :earseek:

I gift wrapped everything for free for her. That was in 1979, I'll never forget that. I've often wondered what her family thought of their gifts!
