Inspired by San Angel - Unfriendly Servers At WDW

I honestly can't recall a truly bad server on any of our visits. We've had some poor food, but that is not the server's fault, and they did try to recitify our issues when we brought them up.

I'll probably remember a terrible experience as soon as I post this!

We buy into "superior" standards and we go to WDW with higher than average expectations. Likely a mistake.

A strange tale from a few years ago. It was our first trip back to WDW after DH passed away on our first visit. We returned to Chef Mickey's. Server was rather, quiet, unsmiling. Me and my kids enjoyed it, but we're remembering our previous trip with dad. Server comes to have me sign the check and brings me a pen from "Chappey's Funeral Home"! I look at the pen, sign the check and I think - "How un-Disney-like!". Server returns, and I tell him briefly our sad story and ask if maybe he wants to get a different pen next time! All the while being my smiling, light hearted self who has learned not to take anything TOO seriously anymore........until....
The server got huffy and tells me that death is a part of life and I'd better get used to it! Goes on to tell me people live and die and what's MY problem!?
Only time I ever got a manager on the way out. He was furious - said there was no excuse for even USING that pen - that servers are GIVEN specific pens to use. Last I saw, server was storming OUT of CM's to points unknown.

I can't think of a bad meal at WDW...I think we've always had exceptional service, which is odd but a good thing. All my trips have been on some kind of dining plan, either the Silver Plan or the current one. I've gotten free desserts at Mama Melrose, extra lobster tail at Brown Derby, awesome character interaction at Chef Mickeys, great waiters at Donalds Breakfastosorous just to name a few that really stand out to me...
If service is ever as bad as some of the stories listed above, you better believe a manager will here about it. I'm definately not shy about that!

I do like someones suggestion about mentioning "Are we able to tip more even though we are on the dining plan?" I've never used that one before, so that's going on my tipping envelopes! Great idea!

Forgot where we ate, but the service was awful. On the bill, where it said 'tip', I wrote '0 due to poor service'. Takes alot for me to do that. I'm one who recognizes that the waitress/waiter does not prepare my food, and perhaps someone else is to clear the table, so, like I said, it takes alot for me to do that one.

I've also read that the tip is already included in these DDP's? If that's the case, why does anyone need to give folks good service?
They're guaranteed a tip, no matter what.
