*inspired by reading thread* Where do you get your books?

We have an excellent library system. For the popular books you can place a hold and when it comes to your name on the list, they hold it for you. They notify you on the phone or in writing, and you can call them up from your computer and access your account, not only to place holds but to see when your items are due or what is being held for you and also where you are on the holds queue.

The selection is great since they get sent from any branch right to you.

They also have just about any DVD you could want! No need to pay for rentals, plus you keep them for a week!

Library, yard sales, Goodwill, Amazon, Buy.com, half.com, bn.com, bamm.com, and my aunt and sister send me all that they have read!:p

I make it my business to financially support our local library on a regular basis! We never get the books back in time. I usually buy several when I am in the "city" and read them when I have the time!

I work in a bookstore, so I get one free paperback every week, and my discount on other books is AWESOME! My hardbacks that cost $15 are around $6.

Oh! I am so jealous!!

I'm a library girl as well. Between DD, DH, and I we have so many books it's embarassing. Luckily, our new house will have a room that we've designated as the library. I try only to buy the books by authors that I just love and know I'll read again.

I work at a college and we exchange books we've enjoyed--lending them back and forth. This works out great as I get to try some books that I might not have ever picked up.

Once a year (or when we're moving), I sort through the books we have and we donate the ones that we no longer want to the library for the book sales they have several times a year.

I spend between $500-$700 a year on books for my daycare. Mostly Scholastic. I have to put money into my business or I will get killed in taxes. I think this is a good investment in the kids.

Other than that, I cannot pass up books at a garage sale. Knowing the discounted price I pay through Scholastic, seeing kids books for .10-1.00 is just too much for me to resist. I don't expect my books not to have wear and tear.

Books for myself I either buy at a garage sale or mostly Sam's Club because I'm always there. Our kids find some there too. If we're looking for a specific book, I just order it online.

I love our library. In our town about 3/4 of the citizens have library cards and they check out over 2.5 million piece of material a year. They have used book sales about every three months and that is a great place to get books. The newer/best sellers sell for $1.00 and all others for $.25. I took a bag full of books to the used bookstore today.

Something that I have found helpful is that I have a list of authors and books that I want to read or listen to so when I go to the library there is always a title to look for. Sometimes I forget my list and I walk around thinking what was that book I wanted.

I get my books at the library first, then if I like them enough I'll try to buy them at Target or Walmart. If I really like the book and cant find it at the aforementioned places I'll splurge and get it at Barnes & Noble. Even with my 10% member discount they are still usually more expensive than everywhere else, but they have a great selection and a Starbucks. yum!

The majority of the time I visit the local library, but every now and then I splurge and go to Borders or Barnes and Noble.

Barnes & Noble (the store and their website), Half Price Books, Ebay. Those are the main places.
