NMAmy said she had 45 mintues left at work before she left for vacation. That got me thinking: how do you kill time at work?

I have a few: go the bathroom on a different floor. Then walk around the office. Then wash out any cups or bowls.

And the coup de gras: In a spreadsheet (so it looks like work,) type in a relatively long word. Then see how many shorter words you can make out of the larger word.

I used to have a really boring job...

Today I literally sat and stared at the wall to see how long I could go before I had to blink.

AAhhh, Fridays! :teeth:

1st grade teacher here with 24 students....I don't have any time to kill at work. I wish I did. I usually don't even get to sit down between 9:00 a.m. & 12:30. Then, at 12:30, I have 25 minutes to eat lunch & run to the ladies room. :teacher:

:rotfl2: This sounds like something from "The Office."

Ah, thank you!! I really needed a laugh tonight!

My favorite was always defragmenting my hard drive. My boss didn't know very much about computers, so I could sit there and watch the little blue squares fill up the screen for an hour, and it looked like real work to him. Then I convinced him that I needed to do the same for his computer, so I got to do it twice each month. Sad, I know....

What dont I do to kill time at work? :rotfl2:

Most days my job keeps me pretty busy and there always seems to be someone needing something or wanting me to do something more. But there are days when I just want to kill time till I go home/break/lunch. Here are a few"

-get up and go to the main office printer to check to see if my print came out. even though I never printed anything. I can do this a few times and then claim to have something wrong with my system. I go back and reboot/reselect/"call" IS and then get it back up and running. Then finally print something for reals and retrieve it from the main printer.

-go reseach something in another part of the facility. which means i take a walk and visit people in other areas.

-run long reports that I have no need for and then spread them out on the desk to go over the "stats" while just staring at them.

-open a few programs on my computer and then flip back and forth between them to look like im comparing some info

-make use of my highlighters and different color pens on some misc report but the highlighting and notes i make in the colors make it look important.

-claim a report was misplaced or borrowed from my desk and then go through all my stuff and rearrange everything till I "find" it.

-will find a chart that needs to be "reviewed" and just sit there with it open and turning pages back and forth even few minutes.

-stare at the calender and come up with how many days since something or home more days till something. Like how many days since I last went to the movies or how many more days till my next vacation. I stare at the calender and count these up in my head. No reason, just because.

-send emails to everyone I haven't heard from for the last week. Not a mass email. But one by one. Usually saying "just wanted to say hi".

-my fave though is a combination of having charts open, reports out, and stats on the computer screen but the whole time just staring at my pictures on my desk....mostly of me and my sweetie and thinking to myself how great we are together.

Yep, I kill a lot of time at work.

I type lists: things-to-do lists, grocery lists, christmas gift lists, personal budget lists...

I also do my banking and pay bills on-line.

Thank goodness I have a job that keeps me busy all the time. In nine years of working in this department, I never even had one occasion where I had to "look busy." :thumbsup2

Stacerita -- These are awesome!! :lmao: They reminded me of one more:

Especially helpful if you are in school: Copy several pages out of your current text. Then, you can highlight, underline, etc. at your desk and it all looks like legitimate. You could also copy pages out of a regular book, place the pages in a folder of some sort, and read to your heart's content.

No free time for me either. I usually don't even  get to visit the bathroom until the buses have pulled out at the end of the day

:lmao:

Some of you are really cracking me up!

I haven't worked in over 10 years, but I used to work in a college bookstore, so guess what we did to kill time? :teeth:

I stayed away from the math, accounting, and science books, but I loved digging into the medical, English, history, and poli sci books. We also had some trade books, so we'd grab one and kick back at our desks. Summer break, spring break, and winter break were good for things like this. Also, I'd grab catalogs and we'd just pour through them and pick out stuff we wanted to buy. I spent way too much of my paycheck ordering books.

I loved that job.

I substitute teach. When Im not running from one section of the building to another, I am driving to another building in the district.

If I have a free prep time, and that is a big IF, I am usually studying for my courses.

I used to teach, so I do understand about not having any down time. I guess that is one of the "perks" of working for "the man."

Actually, it just occurred to me with Stacerita's post is that she's actually working harder at killing time than if she were truly working. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I love these!

I'm a nurse. I don't have time to go to the bathroom, let alone try and figure out things to do to waste time.
