Which do you prefer and why?

I like charcoal. I think it just tastes better. When I use a gas grill, I can taste the gas in the food.

What about wood?

We have an open pit, that we use wood on, nothing better than food cooked on an open pit, WITHOUT that taste of lighter fluid you get with charcoal. Other than wood, it's propane in our Kenmore Elite

i use both, gas for quickies, ( to help lessen the taste difference, try adding more lava rock and open the vents more on gas grill) charcoal for big cookouts and bbq's likes the charcoal because i can add pecan hulls, apple wood,m mesquite, hhickory, etc to help flavor my meats:) takes time to learn to use the right amout and how much to soak and where to add but imho i love awood fired grill. its a delisious alternative:)

for me..nothing beats the taste of charcoal..except maybe with a few pieces of wet wood tossed in for added aroma.....but, nothing beats the gas grill for ease and convenience of use.::yes::

Both taste the same to me as the fuel itself does not make the flavor. For flavor variety, we use the wood smoker accessory, for mesquite, hickory, oak or what have you.

I used to prefer charcoal, but after the trouble we'd ahve geting it lit right consistantly, I changed to liking gas. I admit the gas is so much easier :teeth:

Also my favorite. My husband is building a pit for us.

We have one of those indirect heating smokers, where you put the wood pellets in the hopper....it is the BEST BBQ EVER! It was spendy, DH bought it two summers ago, but everything turns out moist, delicious and never burnt. We love it! We use it year round! It's a brand called Traeger- I think they have a website!:sunny:

I vote both, charcoal for taste, gas for convenience. Although nothing tastes worse than a burger cooked on a lighter fluid soaked charcoal grill...uggg..Why can't people learn how to use that stuff? (Or NOT use it?)
