Inspired by lisajl... does your teen want to learn to drive?

Lisa mentioned that her 18 y.o. DD has no desire to learn to drive, and I am so relieved because Justin doesn't want to, either. I was beginning to think it was just us. How about your kids, do you have a teen who is driving age but doesn't seem to want to get their permit?

My oldest son had to get his learner's permit renewed b/c it automatically expired when he turned 18. He was totally ambivalent about getting his license and had driven so little with the permit that he really wasn't ready for the test. He was just home for spring break (first year of college), and drove one time at my suggestion. And since our insurance would increase around $1,000 a year and he would be one more inexperienced teen on the road, this is fine with us. I think he probably is going to try for his license when he gets home for the summer -- his 84-year-old grandfather, of all people, is pushing it.

On the other hand, I have a 15-year-old who can't wait.

It is good to hear other people's children are waiting, too.

Bree is 17..will be 18 in November. Her best friend drives, so she has no desire to drive.
She was in the car with me when we almost had an accident.
Someone went right through the stop sign and it scared her.

She can walk everywhere here in town, so it's not that imperative that she drive.
Although, I did tell her I will not be her chauffer when she goes to college.

It is nice that she will have plenty of experience before she gets out there on her own. Too many kids get their licenses before they are ready. I am glad she knows her limits, but still practices driving with us.

Plus, she has a car waiting for her. Now....how about a real job?
