I am currently working a job that I don't like, so I'm ready to start the search for a new one. For those of you that have wonderful jobs, how did you find it? And, what line of work are you in?

I have my "dream job" but it took me awhile.

Didn't know what I wanted to do and worked my way up into upper management when I realized how miserable I was. I was bored and stressed and identified the job I really thought I wanted, and felt I would be good at.

I changed jobs after 10 years at the same company, just to get a few years experience in an area my old company couldn't give me. After just under 2 years I started looking, networking, etc. and got my foot in the door in the field I wanted. One year after that I got recruited by my "target" company and I've been doing what I love, for the company I really wanted to work for, for the past two years.

Does that help?

I started my new job last July. I work as a Vocational Counselor with a private rehab agency. I was referred by someone I go to school with (working on my Master's in Rehab Counseling). It is a WONDERFUL job that I am suprised I am good at. My boss and co-workers are supportive and tell me what a great job I am doing. It's a great ego booster and makes me very loyal. It's all about who you know.

Before that, I worked for a very large HMO for 3 years. The corporate world is not for me. It was awful. They laid us off last year but luckily I got a nice severance package and a bonus (which sent us to WDW in Sept!!) and luckily got my current job asap.

I love my job! But I kind of accidentally got into it. And it's kind of a wierd job to love, but I do. I think you'll know it when you find it? That's kind of a strange thing to say (err write) but I think it's true. Think about what interests you and ask around ... what things that interest you would be included in a "job". Think about what matters to you - where you want to make a difference in your community. I think that's what helped me. Like I said, I think you will know it when you see it.
I don't know for sure, but I don't think a large percentage of people love their jobs - I really consider myself very lucky.....

Thanks, everybody! I'm just really nervous about changing jobs - it took me so long to find the one I'm in now, and I'm afraid of not finding another one again. I'm starting to watch the newspaper, and on Monday I'm calling my college's placement center to see if they can help. Any other suggestions?
