Inspired by: do you know someone like this. My test on The "One Upper"

So MIL calls me this morning, and as usual she asks: How are you, so I always just say I am fine and leave it at that, she will then go on to tell me all of daily aliments, which are always the same! She then tells all of what she did the day before. Now for someone who claims to have some much wrong with them, she does an awlful lot of things. I have just come to ignore this with her as it is an attention thing.

Well now I decided to test The One Upper therory; For those of you who do not know what the "One Upper " is, it is where when if you did something, the other person did the same thing but better,etc. You get it now, they have to be one up on you!

So back to this morning. I decide to tell MIL this:

Our phone conversation this mornig"

MIL: Kitty how are you feeling this morning?
Me: Well Mom not so good, I seem to have "DIARRHEAL"
MIL: Oh Kitty, I do to, I could not figure out what was wrong with me this morning, oh my poor little belly was gurgling and make all kinds of sounds and wishy washy, etc. I was in the basement and well it hit me! Oh I must get myself upstairs to the bathroom. Kitty, I could hardly get up the basement steps in time to go. I thought I was going to go all over myself, Oh it was so bad! You Know! (now MIL always ask me this You Know) I am holding the phone almost wetting myself, so know way she is telling me all of this, TMI as my DD would say (to much info)

The classic case of The One Upper!

Oh MIL just went on and on about her morning bathroom escaped!

Me: Mom did you take any anti-diarrheal medicine?
MIL: No, but I am going to have to,this is just so bad, I can not do anything!
Me: Well you know you should take something for it since you have it so bad! Ma I need to get going someone is here, as I opened the front door and rang my own door bell so I could get off the phone from all of this!

So I was wondering if I should call i 800 ATTENDS and have a free sample sent over to her! Then one day I could say to her, guess what I got in the mail? Just so she can be "ONE UP"!

That's a serious "One Upper" for sure.

If someone tells me they have "intestinal issues", I back away as quickly as I can - I certainly don't want to "One Up" on that.

Ugh, the person who ONE UPS where health issues are concerned is the absolute worst. I avoid those people at all costs. I guess you can't very well avoid your own mother though I don't guess. If I were you I'd just avoid any discussion of health issues unless they are so serious you can't not talk about it.

Oh Snoopy I agree with you 100%, with MIL, you don't have to ask her,trust me she calls every morning to tell me about all her health stuff for the day! I get so tired of hearing it, I do let it go in one ear and out the other! MIL does have a heart of gold and I do love her dearly!

I'm sure you do Kitty, you are so sweet. I think its funny that you had to go ring your OWN doorbell though! You poor thing!! I guess all you can do is grin and bear it, huh?
