Lots of people talking about dinners; going to parties; etc..

What kind of food do you have? Is it the same each year - a tradition of sorts?

We change it around every year here - depending on what we happen to feel like.. (Except for the cookies, of course! ;) ) :santa:

I didn't post on the other thread, but I will post here since our tradition involves food... :goodvibes

We always go to McDonalds on Christmas Eve before we set out for a drive looking at Christmas lights.

The only thing that is always the same is that we always get an ice cream cone!

Since so much is changing this year, not sure what we will end up with! But normally mil has traditional turkey and ham dinner with all the trimmings or she serves gumbo. My favorite is the gumbo; she makes a seafood gumbo and a chicken gumbo.

At dh's grandmother's we have always had finger foods with everyone bringing their specialty. There are some things like the meatballs or fruit and dip that you just look forward to each year.

If we have the same type of food at dh's mother's families get-together, I guess we will have to start a new tradition of Christmas eve supper at home--I will have to think on that and decide what we will have.

I always make red velvet cupcakes for Christmas Eve, complete with cream cheese frosting and christmas sprinkles. That's the only constant; the rest of the food changes every year! :santa:

Dinner changes every year for Christmas....could be turkey, ham, roast beef, pork
Sides also change. I use this dinner as a change to experiment with new things.
Desserts same thing.
Cookies...always done, some same and some new every year.
We do always get Subway for dinner on Christmas Eve.....bring it back, watch holiday movies and do the pajama/ one present thing later in the evening.

We always have rice balls and we always have a traditional Christmas Eve fish dinner.

Among other things, we had subs from Quizno's last year..:)

So yummy! They look like this. We cup cooked risotto in palm of hand and add some mozzarella, chopped meatballs in sauce and parmesan cheese and cup more rice around it to form a ball. Then you roll them in breadcrumbs and deep fry them. Some people add green peas but we never do.

Some rice balls are large some no so much bigger than a golf ball.

We don't have any traditions so it varies. If we are hosting Christmas then we will just snack the night before, we are usually busy preparing stuff for the following day.

Christmas Eve is when we make all the fish. We always have macaroni and fish gravy (sauce with lobster, shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams in it) I make homemade fried shrimp also every year. We make a ton of other stuff but those two items are staples every single year. We are Italian so Christmas Eve is the big dinner for us. Oh- and Santa Claus usually stops by to make sure the kids are listening and to let them know that they better get to bed early.;):santa:

This sounds like our house too. This is our big meal. Of the two days Christmas is much more casual. Santa always made an appearance with one gift that evening too. Now the kids are getting older but my sister just had a baby so Santa may be making appearances again.:santa:

Santa brings our kids one gift too! I love seeing the kids faces when he shows up!:cutie:

I make a low-country boil: 5-lbs fresh Gulf shrimp, red potatoes, and corn on the cob. It's quick and easy and makes a lot of food, so when we get sick of the turkey & ham et al, from Christmas, we can get some yummy seafood stuff.

This year we have pizza. We start a new tradition. Usually we have a sandwich platter, fruit and veggie platter.

Maybe we could do this and I could get the kids excited about going out and looking at Christmas lights with me again :lmao: (come on kids, lets go, I'll buy you McDonalds if you dooooo :rolleyes1) :lmao::lmao::lmao:

On Christmas Eve we usually have appetizers. They change year to year but we usually have cocktail weenies in BBQ sauce, meat and cheese tray and what ever else I feel like making. This year we are going to try these:

ChickenBaconPoppers.jpg

* 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
* 1 lb. sliced bacon
* 2 TB. BBQ 3000
* 1/2 Cup firmly packed brown sugar
Preheat oven to 350°. Spray a flat roasting rack with non-stick cooking spray, place on a foil-covered roasting or broiling pan and set aside. Cut the chicken breasts into 1-inch cubes. Cut each bacon slice into thirds. It is easiest to do this before you separate the bacon into slices. Wrap a piece of bacon around each chicken cube and secure with a wooden toothpick. Combine the BBQ 3000 with the brown sugar. Drop each meat skewer into the mixture and toss gently with your fingers until completely coated. Arrange the poppers on the rack and bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes, until the bacon is crisp and the topping browned.

Prep. time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 30-35 minutes
Yield: 45-48 pieces

I don't mean to sound stupid, but I have NO IDEA what we eat from year to year. I doubt highly that its ham or turkey (maybe turkey) so its probably either steak or a roast of some sort or turkey....

The main dish never does much for me anyway, I'm more of a side dish kind of gal!!
