My mom is retiring next month and is looking for something part time, non taxing to do with her time. She doesnt have the grandkids around right now so will have a lot of time on her hands.
She wants to work PT if she can find something to enjoy and she doesnt want to leave where she is.

What would be your ideal post retirement PT job?

If I were far from WDW...

I'd volunteer at an animal rescue, helping people choose the right pet and educating about pet ownership. I might volunteer at a zoo, too-- probably in education rather than with the animals.

In a completely separate realm... I'd probably be looking for something completely different by that time. I've always wanted to work in a theater set shop. I could volunteer with a community theater. If I wanted to get paid, I could take an ushering or box office job; it would be a good social outlet, and I'd get free tickets to all the shows.

I want to retire somewhere near the beach and do resort missions. I think that it would be a lot of fun to run church services for people on vacation. You'd get all the great parts about joining together to worship God without all the headaches that can arise when you have a group of people who each have their own ideas about how things ought to be done. Since the worshippers would be people on vacation, they wouldn't be there long enough to argue. We'd just have a good time enjoying God's creation and focusing on the things we agree about. The only bad part of my plan is that neither my DH nor I are capable of preaching or leading the music... :(

Welcome greeter@ WDW. If I didn't need the $$$ then an animal shelter.

Groupie for a rock band, but I doubt that they'd appreciate an old lady hangin' out with them:D

I'd be an ice cream or candy taste tester. :p

The theater usher sounds like a great pt job! :)

All of the volunteer positions sound great.

Jet-setting millionairess!!! Hey you know what...go ahead and make it full time....I don't mind the work!!!! ;) ;) ;)

My ideal retirement would be working as a cook somewhere. Not a fancy restaurant. But, someplace that serves good old fashioned home cooking. Things like chicken and dumplings, meatloaf. Not a chain, one that is owned by a family.

Just about everyone I work with says they plan on being a Wal-mart greeter when they retire.

I hope to be a "snowbird" and spend my winters in the Orlando area. That way I can work a couple days a week at WDW maybe in one of the merchantiles in Fort Wilderness. Then on my days off I could play in the parks.

Many women that worked for my mother were retired. This was at Jo-Ann fabrics. Many stores like that, AC Moore and Michaels have older retired women who love crafts work there. The friendships that develop with these part time women are great. My mom still has them all over for a summer party and a christmas party every year even though she hasn't worked there for over 3 years and some of the women have left as well. If your mom likes crafts or sewing than this could be a perfect job to help kids who need to do a craft project for school, to the troop leader that needs idea's for a girl scout project as well as the mother who is trying to make her first quilt for her first baby...

That's my idea!!
