this crossed my mind when i read that thread too-seems like common sense for a teacher.
to answer your question-when i got a degree in early childhood education we had a ethics componants in all of the core classes. when i got my education degree and credential it was again a componant in several courses. in training for social work it was an entire subject matter.
dh is in a teaching program-it is covered within several courses.
the thing with the 'candle thread' that realy made me

was how this teacher of a high school course could justify/document these grading practices. dd's highschool has an on-line system that parents can access to check grades. anything that is graded has to have a description of the assignment/test/extra credit and then you can go and look not only at your child's but the high/low/mean scores of the entire class/. if a parent wishes they can request the rubric for how an individual assignment/test/extra credit is set up. dh is being taught that every assignment/test/extra credit has to have a rubric in place for teacher accountability, so it floors me that any teacher could get away with this kind of unethical practice.
