So who likes them?

When I was growing up my mom used to order them yearly from the school band fundraiser--Texas Fruitcakes. I think everyone in our household liked them and we savored them. Now I order them from http://www.monasteryfruitcake.org/productsfruitcakes.asp I don't think my kids like them, but I try not to encourage them to eat it, anyway. My DH likes it, but not as much as I do.

I can't eat the cheap grocery store ones--they taste bad to me (too cakey and not enough pecans), but I love the expensive ones.

Anyone else like them?

Could you tell me more about the Texas Fruit cakes. I like fruit cake with raisins, nuts, dates but I don't care for that candied fruit, is it citron?? Cherries are okay. My dad used to make a wonderful fruit cake with some kind of liquor that he would start weeks before Christmas. I liked that.

I can't believe I'm admitting this to all of you........
:rolleyes1
I LOVE FRUITCAKE! A nice cup of hot tea, snuggled down in my sweats watching HGTV or reading a book, and a little slice of fruitcake is PURE HEAVEN!

Crap! NOw I'm hungry for fruitcake........what did you have to go and bring that up for.......... and it will be awhile before anyone around here has any.......

I like fruitcake in small amounts. Let us remember "You are what you eat!" LOL!

You can order it from the link I gave and it will arrive in days! :teeth: I need to order mine--maybe I should order 2 this year in case my kids decide they like it afterall.

DawnCt1, the Texas Fruitcakes were a brand--not sure if they are still around. It was a yearly fundraiser that my brother's high school band used to do. I'm sure they didn't have brandy in them like the Monastery Bakery ones have. The MB ones do have the citron, but they're not as filled with it as the store bought ones, but if you really don't like citron I doubt that you'd like it, anyway.

Hmmm, I resemble that remark! :rotfl:

I try to eat small pieces, but a few small pieces don't have the calories of one large piece, right? ;) And we all know that eating anything over the kitchen sink doesn't have any calories, right? :rotfl2:

I thought for sure there was only one fruitcake in the world and everyone just kept passing it around to each other :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Could be, but when it gets to me I ruin all the fun and eat it! :teeth:

But, I come by it naturally. In fact, they even produced fruitcakes under my name!

People must love fruitcake, where I work we sell a $40 fruitcake and they are usually reserved and back ordered a few months in advanced

I tried it, didn't like it very much, too sweet...

You're a professional fruitcake, huh? :teeth:

Alice's Mom, $40 fruitcake! For crying out loud, that's a lot of money! How big is it? I thought the Monastery cakes were expensive @ $20.

jokes aside but i completely and totally love fruitcake.......

i need to google some places to find the best ones this year.
it's gettting more difficult to get the fruitcakes i like.

if i can't find what i want, then i have to make them.
really time consuming and costly............

macraven, which places do you like for fruitcakes? I've never made one, nor do I ever plan to--seems like way too much work.

I like fruit cake too. I don't love it, but I enjoy it at the holidays!

My mistake this year they are $46.50, it is 2 pounds. Made by Trappist Monks in the Ozarks

People really eat them??? :confused3
I thought that people just tossed them. :teeth:
