Did anyone NOT receive an engagement ring when you decided to get married?

My DH and I have been married for 23 years (second marriage for each of us) and I never received an engagement ring. He couldn't afford it at the time and I never pressed him for one. I had one the first marriage (still have it in a drawer) and look where it got me!

After a while, there were just too many other important things to use the money on than an engagement ring.

Anyone else?

Yep. We're not married yet, but we decided to pass on the engagement ring. I never wear jewelry anyway so it wasn't a big deal to me. I'd rather spend the money on a down payment so I can get out of this apartment.
