Dangit, I meant this to be a poll. Arrgh.
I'm just curious how many Disers take vacations without their children.

I suppose you could still answer. I was going to ask if you don't, would you want to? How often? etc.

My parents did it all the time.....Las Vegas and cruises especially.

We've never taken a vacation without the kids. Youngest DS is 11. When he grows up there will be plenty of times to take vacations without him. We like the little guy and have more fun when he is with us.

My DH and I went to Disney last April without the kids and had a great time. It's such a different experience going there with no kids. I recommend everyone try this at least once! LOL

DH and I have taken weekends without the kids, and we took our honeymoon without DS. :teeth:

We leave him for long weekends several times a yr and planning a trip to Mexico next yr for a week and wont take him its great to have couple time. We always take the kids somewhere in the summer for at 10 days. My youngest and i have a habit of jumping in the car and heading off to Atlanta and Alabama to see family for a week at a time and daddy gets left at home lol.

We also do long weekends typically, this time our trip in 27 days to WDW will be without them for the first time....kinda. We are meeting iour DS with his school trip (band) but are staying at another resort:banana:

We've never done a true vacation w/o them. Last year, DH went to Boston for business and I tagged along while the boys stayed w/ my parents. This March, DH has a conference in Orlando and I'll be tagging along then as well while my parents again keep the boys.

So, I guess you could say I have had vacations w/o them, but DH really hasn't. :teeth:

We did for our 11th anniversary (see trip report below in signature). We have not done many vacations without the kids. I can pretty much count the number of them on one hand, including one or two one-night weekend trips with Grandma holding down the fort.

We're weird, we don't vacation without our kids as a couple. I go on yearly trips with my girlfriends, and DH does golf weekends with his brothers, but not since we have had kids have we actually vacationed without them. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact I don't want DH and I in a plane and our two boys on the ground. I'm so afraid the plane will crash and they will be left without either parent. I think if we ever do take a trip, we'll take separate flights.

We have gone overnight to a romantic Inn, that sort of thing, but never an actual vacation.

Yes, we have since they were little. Mostly just a weekend in the spring and/or fall. This is one of my secrets I tell young couples to make sure to do. I think it is important to remember what brought you together in the first place, and a weekend away helps to focus on just the two of you. However, I realize I was blessed to have my mother willing and able to be here while we got away. I hope to be able to do the same for my kids when they marry and have children. I am already telling them "I'll babysit so you and your husband/wife can get away for a romantic weekend".
However, never more than a weekend...vacations for a week or more have always been with our kids. :)

I just spent 6 days at DL without DD5 and it was great. No winning child, no temper tantrums (at least ones that I couldn't walk away from), I didin't have to worry about anyone but myself:goodvibes . I wish I could do it more often.

We probably will never take a big vacation without them, but I would like to start doing weekends getaways now that the kids are older.

Well I traveled all over the USA and parts of Canada playing paintball for 4 to 8 days at a time . It was so like a vacation.

Then Dw and I have done some 3 to 5 day trips to the Ocean and Vegas for our Annv.

We only have the one DD and we do a lot with her so it's no big deal when we take some alone time.

We feel the same way.

There will be plenty of time to take vacations alone when DD12 & DS8 are out of the house.

We haven't so far, but ask me again in 7 weeks and I will have a different answer.

It is just a few nights, but I am looking forward to it. I love going places with my kids, but not having to manage so much will be a real vacation. :thumbsup2

It is easy for DH and I to go on vacations without kids. We don't have any.:rotfl2:

The last time my wife and I went on a vacation without the kids is the last time my wife and I went on a vacation without kids (about 10 years ago).
The next time my wife and I will go on a vacation without the kids is the next time we go on a vacation without kids (after they've grown up and moved out).

Yes, we absolutely go away without the kids. We try and get away at least once a year. Last month, DH and I were in Mexico and a short trip to CA.
Last march, we were in Jamaica. And we'll probably go somewhere alone in Aug, DH will be 40.

We take the kids on many vacations also, so I don't feel guilty. They went to WDW for 1 1/2 weeks last September. We went to an indoor waterpark over New Years weekend and they're going to WDW/DCL in June.

DH and I love our time away from the kids. It gives us time to reconnnect and have some alone time. I love my kids with all my heart but sometimes its real nice to get away from them for a while too.
