Inspired again..What is the most you have paid for a pair of shoes?

$140. for a pair of top of the line New Balance walkers for walking The World. :)

$300 is not out of line for me for a good shoe. Keep in mind my Donald Pliner's I just threw away were more than 10 years old (think I paid $140 at the time) and had been resoled 5 times. I don't keep more than 8 pairs of shoes (including winter snow boots), so I don't mind paying for shoes that will last.

My biggest problem with shoes is shopping for them, it is a huge time killer for me. I have normal width feet, with incredibly narrow heels. Due to my own personal clumsiness, I need to have a shoe with some sort of a back--no mules for me I will kick them off at the person walking in front of me.

I can honestly try on 100 pairs of shoes to find ones that fit me perfectly. The shoes that fit tend to be higher end: Cole Hahn, Pliners, etc..

$100 for hubby's work boots (once a year).
$50-60 for a decent pair of athletic shoes (about once a year).

Does $50 for ballet pointe shoes count? That would be my highest. Next to that $47 for a pair of Nike sneakers at the Nike Employee store last year. They were regularly $130, half price since they are at the employee store (great place if you can get in to it!) and on sale for $47.

$90 for my favorite pair of Steve Madden houndstooth pumps. Come to think of it, my wedding shoes were about $100, b-day gift from DH (fiancee at the time obviously, lol). $100 on running shoes. $160 on Uggs. I much prefer shoes to purses.

I'm also dreaming of the day I can buy a pair of Manolo Blahniks, Jimmy Choos or Christian Louboutin's. If I had the money I would spend more. We choose vacation over those kinds of things.

I do have a pair of Jimmy Choo's I got for 475$. I have big feet - I'm a size 11 so when it comes to shoes for my size the selection is limited so when I saw these and saw that they actually had my size I couldn't resist. They also my me look and feel sexy. When I slip them on I feel like diva and my whole attitude changes; I'm no longer the frompy mom in her Lands End shoes, Target top and on sale Lane Bryant jeans. I'm this mysterious, exciting and worldly woman. I love 'em and so does my husband ;)

T.

Whew, I thought I was the only one in love with Jimmy Choo's and Manolo's.
I've got a 3 pair.

I'm so with you on the attitude thing. I slap on my Manolo's strappy sandals and even with a pair of jeans and I feel "rich" :lmao:

It's funny, I'm thinking about cutting cable because I think the bill is not worth what I get but I have no problem shelling out $500 bucks on a pair of shoes. I am so weird.

Well because I live in SW Florida I am usually in flipflops (though not lately:confused:)but the most I spent on shoes was $95 on my honeymoon. They were the best black ans white sandles ever and I miss them terribly. I have never been able to replace them since they broke 5 years ago!:sad2:

$39.99 on Crocs. :)

I wear my Crocs 24/7 unless there is snow on the ground. Which is right now, unfortunately. I own... umm... *counting on fingers*... 5 pairs of Crocs, 3 Mickey Beach (pearl/pink, red/black, and navy/lime), and 2 normal Beach (pale yellow, and khaki). i am sure I will buy more this spring. :goodvibes

I paid $24 for the shoes I am wearing right now... a pair of black leather loafers made by Wrangler, purchased at Kmart in the men's department. They are very comfy, and have great traction.

Besides the Wrangler shoes, and my Crocs, I own two other pairs of shoes; a pair of knock-off Birkenstocks from WalMart, and a pair of plain black flats for those rare occasions when I MUST dress up.

I also own a pair of snowboots - they were $34.99, just less than the Crocs - but I try to ignore them if at all possible. I hate boots and only wear them if I am forced to be out tromping about in the snow. I hate snow, too.

Around $80. I have big feet, so I can never find anything that fits or I like. So, I wear Eastlanders or Crocs all the time.

I believe the most was $160 for a pair of Nike Air Max. It was well worth it in my opinion, they are new favorite to wear at Disney World. Before those it was $130 for Nike Shox.:)

For me about $50. I really never could afford much more than that. I know my stepdaughter's boyfriend has paid over $600. I didn't see them but I don't even know the brand. I don't know how this is afforded?

Most of my shoes are $90-$150 shoes but, I never pay that much. I usually spend around $40-$60 but, I would pay more. I used to sell shoes and let me tell you it is VERY important to have good shoes. I would have several elderly ladies a day telling me to take good care of my feet and I listened to them.

Oh, and I wanted to add I usually buy my shoes online but, I only can do that because I know what sizes in what brands and which brands my feet like. Go to a good shoe store and try on a bunch of stuff.

This reminds me of a funny conversation I had with a co-worker of dh's. Dh was always complaining about how totally clueless this girl was but I didn't really believe him.

We were out at a work dinner one evening and she was commenting that her shoes were very comfortable. She said they were the most expensive shoes she had ever purchased but they were so comfortable that she now understood that it is worth buying expensive shoes. She kept going on about how expensive they were. It was dark and I couldn't see them so I had no idea what she was wearing. I couldn't help myself so I asked "How much do you consider expensive for shoes?" Her answer..."These were $40 and I've never spent that much before on shoes."

I almost fell on the floor laughing. Now you must understand that I grew up going to a rather expensive private school in the rich part of town so even though I don't buy them myself I KNOW about expensive shoes. Those were not expensive shoes and I couldn't help but kinda chuckle. She was insulted and asked what I consider expensive shoes. My answer "Keep in mind I usually shop Payless or clearance and try to stay around $20 - $30 for my shoes but I personally would consider about $150 at the top of what I would pay for shoes. However, I don't consider those "expensive", to me, expensive shoes start at $600 and go up to several thousand." She was stunned because she didn't even know they made shoes that cost that much.:rotfl:

Oddly she and I had the same conversation several times that night. She talked about how she loves buying expensive clothing for her son who was about 8 months old. I asked her what she considered expensive. You guessed it, a $20 complete outfit from BabysRUs qualified as expensive. She then asked what I consider expensive. I answered that personally I cringe when Gymbo outfits total nearly $100 for all the pieces and I buy gymbo at consignment sales but although I won't spend this much I consider several hundred or more per outfit to be expensive.

It is really all about perspective.

BTW, my last pair of name brand tennis shoes were on clearance and with a coupon I paid $6.88!

I have a pair of Christian Louboutin's that retailed for $695. They're a classic, pin up girl shoe.

Now, to be fair, there's a story behind them. After learning my mum had terminal cancer in June, we took her for the trip of a lifetime in August. She had always wanted to see Hollywood and put her hands in the hand prints, go shopping on Rodeo Drive, and stay at a five star hotel. My mum, DH and I went for a two week, spare no expense vacation to make this happen. We did Disneyland, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica staying at the most beautiful hotels I could find. We stayed at the Beverly Hills Wilshire right on Rodeo and while there mum really wanted to buy something designer. She didn't think there was a point to her buying it for herself, so she decided we would buy something for me. She didn't want anything practical either.

When we got to Neiman Marcus, everyone was so nice. We had makeovers at one of the counters and bought expensive lipstick, we tried on diamonds, and held purses that would be three months rent. Then we tried on shoes. The sales associate was delightful and we laughed the whole time. I really think he didn't expect us to buy anything but he treated us at though we were the most important people in the store. Well, I tried on the Louboutin's and mum decided those were the shoes.

I have to admit, I feel like a celebrity when I wear them - all of three times so far! I don't need shoes to remember that day, or any of the vacation, but it was really fun to walk out with that bag and go for lunch after our day of shopping. :goodvibes

Now that is a good reason to buy $700 shoes. What a wonderful memory!

I used to buy a lot of Stuart Weitzmans (I don't think Jimmy Choo, Laboutin, etc., even existed back then). The most expensive pair was probably pink snakeskin pumps at about $300. Since I retired and discovered Naots, that's all I wear. I think they average about $120.

My mom always wore very expensive shoes, but it was primarily because she wore a size 4-1/2 AAAA (later in life she went up to a 5AAAA--still pretty rare). Years ago, 4-1/2 was the sample size for Neiman's, so she was actually able to buy shoes in the store. She also always had the matching purses!

I bought a pair of black leather boots (low heel, almost like a riding boot - cool silver buckle at the top) at the big DSW in Boston this Sept - $100 (normally $400 boots - they were on clearance!). They are THE MOST comfortable shoes. And that leather!! It gets softer and more gorgeous each time I wear them. These boots have convinced my feet that they can only wear expensive shoes now...:lmao:

Ember, that is a great story.

Most of my shoes are in the $40-70 range and I suspect the most I've paid for shoes is around $70. I buy them at Marshalls or Nordstrom Rack (I've gotten some very nice shoes at Nordstrom Rack for really reasonable prices). I don't tend to have many shoes - my facination with shoes (and purses) are both a "expense" and a "quantity" thing. I don't need more than one pair of black pumps in my life - but know people who have MANY. (And I need two purses, one black, one brown - and I almost never use the black one).

I did take up running and have been running in not great shoes ($50 Nikes). I do plan on getting decent running shoes one of these days and paying more than $70 for them.

Thanks! I have pics somewhere... Here they are! See that bag? It has shoes in it!!
