Day 7 (Part 1, Try 2) : MGM

I mean Disney Studios.
Sorry, Hollywood Studios.

OH JUST PICK ONE ALREADY!
And really, the name ain't the problem, guys... :rolleyes1

Anyway.
On our last (and first) trip we only spent an evening in MGM. Did Beauty and the Beast and Fantasmic. Fantasmic was worth waiting in line for 45mns. BATB wasn't worth not waiting at all.
Osborne Lights were amazing, but there are no Osborne Lights in July!

Grumpy agreed reluctantly to one day in MGM, provided we try Sci-Fi and didn't have to see Beauty & the Beast again.
Sold.

We got there right after opening and headed to Star Tours for FPs.
Then we made our way to Backlot Tour, stopping for a little bit to take some pics;

IMG_1898.jpg

As you can see this area of the park was crazy crowded :upsidedow

IMG_1902.jpg

(Please excuse Grumpy's outfit today - I think lack of sleep is finally taking its toll on her).

There were only about 20 other persons with us waiting for Backlot Tour.
The first thing they told us is that something was broken and they wouldn't take volunteers for the water scene.

IMG_1906.jpg

IMG_1908.jpg

The tour was pretty lame. Thank goodness for Catastrophe Canyon, now THAT was cool. I may even put myself through it again just for that scene.

After Backlot Tour we took time to snap some pics in the Streets.

IMG_1913.jpg

Grumping in the rain.

IMG_1915.jpg

Grumpy Bradshaw is waiting for Mr Big to pick her up.

We then checked Great Movie Ride but the wait time was over 55mns. I wouldn't even wait 55mns in line for Soarin'.

Star Tours then. I expected it to be much, much, much rougher than this. Starting to think that I ended up in a non-moving seat because really, Wild Artic at SeaWorld is 10 times rougher than this.
It was an OK ride.

IMG_1918.jpg

IMG_1919.jpg

Next was Muppets 3D which I'd been looking forward to because I looooovvvve Kermit.
It stunk.

I'm sorry to be so negative but really, it did. The movie was grainy, the 3D effects were not clear at all. And the storyline is just plain dumb.
I took off my glasses about halfway through the movie because it got actually painful to see the bad 3D things. We couldn't wait to get out of there.

By that time it was about 11am and we both wanted to leave the park. We wanted to try Sci-Fi but our ADR was for 12.30. I told Grumpy, let's just walk in and see if they can seat us now, if they can great, if not we'll go to Beaches & Cream at the BC instead.

Taking us early was no problem and we LOVED Sci-Fi. It was the one and only good surprise that morning. The food's basic (we both got burgers) but the atmosphere is really fun, our server was funny, and the kids who shared our car were no trouble at all. The movies were hilarious.
I didn't take any pics because it was so dark in there.

After Sci-Fi we checked on Great Movie Ride again - still 55mns. So we went back to the Boardwalk and spent the afternoon at the quiet pool.

If you ask Grumpy what she liked best at BWI Concierge, she'll say the quiet pool. Somehow she thinks that this pool was only for Concierge guests. Well if it makes her happy...

Day 7 (Part 2) : MGM

That night we headed back to MGM for Fantasmic. We were a little over an hour early and found great seats, front and center.
We sat & waited. Grumpy kept asking me to "check her pants" because they kept sliding down in the back.
After the 10th time or so the lady behind us laughed & said
It's Okay honey, your panties aint showing. I'd tell you if they did!

:rotfl: :scared1: :scared: :rotfl2: :lmao:

I'd never seen so many Brazilians in one place before. No kidding, there must have been thousands of them, at least 12 different tour groups, some of which were sitting right in front of us.

They started chanting BRA-ZIL-BRA-ZIL and I don't know why but that really ticked me off. Wait, I do know why. Because we're not in Brazil.
If a french tour group started chanting FRANCE, they'd get smacked upside the head and they'd deserve it.
I rarely think things like that, but at that point all I could think was If you like it so much, why do you come here??

Grumpy & I took one annoyed look at each other and started clapping and chanting U-S-A at the top of our lungs.
The Brazilian kids turned around and looked at us with a shocked look on their faces. Yep kid, you're in the US of A not Brazil.

The guy in front of us who wasn't with the Tour Group told us it wasn't worth it - we were way outnumbered. He said they'd tried the same thing the night before at Illuminations and had lost.
This guy was so funny. He was an ex-Marine, big & tall and muscular... hey I wasn't drooling on him or anything, but he was MANLY if you see what I mean.
Well, when the lights were turned off and the show was about to start, Manly Marine stood up and yelled YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH MIICCCCCCCCCKEYYYYY!!!

Grumpy wanted some popcorn but she hadn't brought cash and I wasn't sure if we could charge something on our key at the stands so I started emptying my backpack hoping to find a few dollar bills.
And It was there.
And I didn't realize what It was.

So in the middle of the Fantasmic stadium I pulled my mom's bra out of the backpack.
I thought the lady from earlier was going to pass out.

One good thing about the Brazilians, while they were annoying before and after the show, they didn't do anything bad during.

Here are some Fantasmic videos for you guys!!!

The beginning :

My favorite part with the witch

Finale

(The guy at the end clapping and saying "There he is" is our Manly Marine friend!!)

After the show we went for some shopping. Brazil kept on chanting. I was about to rip their heads off and was sooooooooo glad that we had decided not to stay at All Stars this time. No way on earth would I put up with that in a resort, I could barely stand it for a few hours in MGM.

We waited a while for the boat, apparently something was broken. Our captain looked about 12 and ressembled Sarkozy (our new President). Sarkozy went right into the dock at the YC/BC :scared1:

It was our last evening at BWI so I took some pics outside... this place is breathtaking at night.

We bought a funnel cake at the stand since it was open for once, it was yummyyyyy -first time I've had a funnel cake.

IMG_2013.jpg

Inside BWI, the hallways were deserted and lights are low, which gave the place a very eerie look. Come and play with us, Danny kind of look.

Forever.
And ever.
And ever.

I was trying to freak out Grumpy but only managed to scare myself.
The pool was great again, it was all ours, so we stayed there until midnight. Had to pack for our move to Pop Century the next day.

So, we gave MGM another try and we're done. Fantasmic is great. I would never miss the Osborne Lights. But until I grow some and decide to try TOT and RNRC I don't see any reason to be back for rides anytime soon.

Our last day... no parade, and a Haunted Room - Part 1

If you ever had bronchitis you know what nights are like. You start by being able to sleep for a couple hours at a time before you choke, then an hour and a half, then an hour....
By our last night at BWI, I was doing series of 40mns comas.
DM got so used to it, my choking didn't even wake her up anymore.
When I got sick of it I'd give up on sleeping altogether and instead spend some time on the balcony, or a couple hours in a scalding hot bath.

Our last morning, I volunteered to stay in the room & pack so that Grumpy could enjoy the pool one last time. Boy did she love that pool.
Once I finished packin I spent about an hour putting some makeup on trying to make myself look human.

It didn't work.

Grumpy came back from the pool and got the Express Checkout envelope on our door. She didn't open it right away instead she changed while I called Bell Services. Sometimes it takes a while for them to show up... well this guy was there in less than 5mns so neither Grumpy or I had the time to review our bill. A few days after we got home we realized we'd been charged for Concierge!!
(Got that fixed in one phone call, but it definitely gave us a scare).

We had to take a cab to CM. Waited 40mns for a bus and got sick of it.

Chef Mickey's was awesome as usual ! I'd been slightly worried since our ADR was so late but everything went great.

The hostess walked us to our table, in a small room above the main room where he buffet is. Our server took one look at me and went

"Oooh honey, how about some hot tea?"

So much for my makeup skills.

DM went to get her food and then I asked her to get mine as well. Also I decided not to touch or hug the characters this time. That thing is mighty contagious (DM luckily has the constitution of a horse), don't wanna get Mickey or Pluto sick !! Do you have any idea how much a good vet costs these days??

IMG_2023.jpg

Yes I like taking pictures of chairs. Sue me.

Minnie came first
IMG_2025.jpg

Then Donald
IMG_2030.jpg

Our buddy Pluto
IMG_2032.jpg

Grumpy's boyfriend Goofy
IMG_2034.jpg

And finally the Big Cheese himself
IMG_2038.jpg

We ate & drank & twirled our napkins and had a great time! I was expecting them to kick us out since we were the only ones left in that little room, but when we walked out we saw many other tables were still full and they were replenishing the buffet again. Silly me, we should have stayed longer.

Grumpy & I took the monorail to MK. It was the first time we'd entered MK that late and MAN did we notice the difference !!! Wait times averaged 35mns. Everywhere.
So we went back to the Carousel of Progress. It had a line too, but only about 5mns. I really enjoyed this show. No it's not cutting edge technology, there's no 3D,and it doesn't throw you upside down but it's a great attraction anyway!

After COP I wanted to check out Toontown, we'd never gone in that area of MK yet.

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

This was BAD. Packed, with todders running everywhere.
All I wanted to do was Minnie & Mickey's house. We tried but got stuck in the first room of Minnie's house for over 5mns, that was enough for us and we left.
Couldn't see anything the place was so packed.

I forced Grumpy to let me take her pic outside of Minnie's house. Does she look thrilled or what ? This is Grumpy at her best.

IMG_2041.jpg

Off to the train station we go. Get me out of here!!!! Pleaaaaaaaaaase.
We took the train all the way back to Main Street then to Frontierland.

What we wanted to do now was find a spot to watch the parade.
We did, in front of Liberty Tree Tavern. A great spot with benches and a roof.
Definitely a good thing, the roof.

About 2mns after we sat - BANG. Thunder. BAD Thunder. It was really, really close and loud. Lightning, thunder, thunder, lightning and then finally the skies opened.
I was surprised that it had only rained once during our trip (the last night at the Poly). Usually it rains every day in July. It didn't rain once during the week we were at Fort Lauderdale either.
Well, somebody upstairs must have decided to catch up because it was raining like I've only seen once before - during tropical storm Alberto the previous June in Madeira Beach.
Sca-ry. We got our ponchos out and waited for it to calm down.
After a while an announcement was made that the parade would start late because of the weather. We waited some more. They announced the same thing again. It was almost 4 and I thought well, they're not gonna have it now. Let's just go. We'll come back tonight for Spectro & Wishes.

We made our way back to the entrance, taking shelter wherever we could, and it took a while.

The POP bus stop is the farthest one from the entrance. We got there & it was still raining, we had to wait about 10mns for a bus then the second the bus showed up, the raining stopped.

I don't know if there ever was a parade at MK that day, but we didn't see it :(

Pop Century, here we come!
The bus ride took about 25mns.Not too bad.
Check in was very fast. I'd put in a request for the 50's building, and the girl at the front desk tried her best but couldn't get us a room in that section. Nevermind, we're only here for one night anyway.

We were in the 80s section, at first I was bugged because it looks far on the map, but it's actually about a 3mn walk from the main hall.
On our way to the room I checked out the decor and the icons, they're really cute !!! If I hadn't been sick & already soaked I would have gone and played in the Goofy water jets.

Our room.. definitely smaller and not as fancy as BWI's, but I liked it!

IMG_2043.jpg

IMG_2044.jpg

First thing I did was get out of my soaked pants. Didn't occur to me that I didn't have any other ones to wear and that in order to go get our luggage I'd have to cover my giant butt with something.
Having to put wet pants back on is really not a great experience.

We walked back to the main hall and to luggage services. Since we were leaving the next day we didn't want all our luggage, just my carry-on (with the laptop in it) and one bag where we'd put clothes for the trip back home.
They were fine with us doing that which was great.

I think the guy at luggage services thought we were insane. He asked how many pieces of luggage we wanted and we said 2 please. He then asked if we were sure we'd have everything for "our family" because they closed at 10pm and then we wouldn't be able to get our stuff until the next morning.

Hmm.. there's only the 2 of us. What makes you think there's more?
Oh right. The 4 huge duffles. And 2 carry ons.
Well, we're women. We need shoes. We don't wear them, but we sure pack em.

Got our stuff & walked back to the room. The sun was back up, Grumpy had her bathing suit and so she went to the quiet "computer" pool that was just behind our building. She liked that pool too but not as much as BWI's.

I was dying to go but that was really, really not a good idea. Instead I took a hot shower& went to bed with an extra blanket. It's 90° in Florida and I was shivering under 2 blankets. Even considered putting the comforter on top of it but these things are just too gross.

Grumpy came back from the pool about an hour later, it was 6pm and if we wanted to see Wishes tonight it was time to get moving.
Well a sentence came out of me that I never thought I'd say

I don't want to go back to Magic Kingdom.

Our last day... no parade, and a Haunted Room - Part 2

And I really didn't. I was cold and tired, coughing and sneezing, and I didn't want to be in a park full of people standing up for an hour to see fireworks.
You could have told me Jon Bon Jovi was waiting for us at the Castle and I still wouldn't have moved.

Okay that's a complete lie, and a very very bad example.
But you get the idea.

I think we watched Hannah Montana again then around 8.30 went to the food court for dinner. Grumpy said we could check out the shop because she had some dollars left, I think she was feeling sorry for me. Grumpy knows better than to actually propose to take me into a shop when we have "extra" dollars.

I *HATE* bringing US Dollars home. To me that's a sign of failure.
That line of thinking resulted in us bringing 17 packs of crackers home on our last trip because that was all I could find to purchase at the airport.

So to the food court we go. It was fairly chaotic. The girl at the checkout didn't understand what the DDE card was, and it hurt too much to talk for me to take the time to explain it. So we didn't save $4, big deal.

I ate two bites of my crusted chicken and gave up, it hurt my throat too much. DM didn't like hers much either. I'd loved that chicken penne pasta at ASMO last December but tonight it was just painful to eat.

Grumpy, didn't you say something about extra dollars?
OMG that shop was HEAVEN.

A zillion times better than the BWI shop. I can't remember everything we purchased but we didn't use the "extra" dollars. The total was over $200 so we had to use a credit card. We spent more on souvenirs in one hour at the POP store than we did all week.

The best part was that we found matching T-Shirts to wear the next day on the plane. See, my dad never finds us at the airport. There was no way he wasn't going to see us in those shirts! Plus, Stitch's on it :stitch2:
It's a blue tie-dye shirt wih Sorcerer Mickey surrounded by many other characters, the castle, the tree of life and I think the Epcot sphere too.
Very cool and it's the first time in ages that DM & I have been able to find something we can both wear (I'm Pooh sized).

As a special treat DM also got me Benadryl and some kind of Vicks medication you spray in your nose. It was lovely.

We went to bed, and then started what was probably the worst night I've had since I was born (and I've had a really scary night once after too much beer, Neocodion and The Verve concert - but let's not go there).

I'm blaming the Benadryl for this. That thing always makes me dizzy.

I'd been in bed for about half an hour when I started thinking about that thread I'd read once on the DIS about a haunted room at POP. What if it were this room ? Oh no, did the hangers just move?

Sleep for 20mns.. choke... sleep for 20mns... choke.

What are those lights that keep going off/on through our window?
Is that a ghost reflection on the TV ?

I can't remember exactly what that thread was about but it DID say that there's a haunted room at POP.

Crap.
I'm scared.

Grumpy remembers the next part clear as day. I have absolutely no recollection of it.... she said it was about 3am and she woke up because she could hear me talk.

She said I was pacing in the room and saying things like (roughly translating from french)
"I'm scared. I got the wiggins. You don't understand, that room is haunted and I want to leave NOW because I'm scared!"

IMO Grumpy's response is the craziest part of all this.
She simply made some space in her bed and told me I could come sleep with her.
She didn't even dispute the fact that our room at the Pop Cenury hotel in Walt Disney World was haunted.

It'd kinda sad that she's so used to freaky behavior from her own daughter that she doesn't even question it anymore. Watcha saying honey ?
The room's haunted ? Okay then, come sleep in Mommy's bed.

By the way, the lights that kept going on/off through the window?
Those were coming from cars. Our room was facing the parking lot.

You should have seen the Fantasmic pics I took in December. They look like Mickey's on acid. I took them all in FOLIAGE mode!!

Well gotta finish this TR quick so I can go back to reading yours :)

Well that's about it folks :)
I waited 'til the sun was up & left the room so that Grumpy could sleep in peace, took a walk around POP... Stupid me didn't think to take my camera.
Good thing we're going back soon eh??

We didn't have much time left, DME was picking us up at 10.15am
Attempted breakfast but it was a madhouse. So we bought Pop Tarts that are still in the kitchen here as far as I know...

I did take one pic of Grumpy that last morning next to Mr Potato Head (this is the shirt we bought last night)

IMG_2046S.jpg

Plane trip back was uneventful, just the way I like it, and my father DEFINITELY had no trouble seeing us in the crowd this time.
We got complimented on our shirts several times during our flights back,I'm not sure if people were mocking or not though :rolleyes1

Thanks for reading this TR... all 4 of you :lmao:
