I took my granddaughter to Sesame Place over the weekend for her 5th birthday. I should mention that she has Down's syndrome.

We were in the tiny tykes wading pool and she was playing with the buoys on the rope just pushing them from one side of the pool to the other, when another little girl came over and told her she was retarded and to go away. Her mother was standing there and told that's right sweetheart she better get used to being pushed out of the way it's going to happen her whole life. My granddaughter is biracial so the women didn't realize we were together - until she saw me coming toward her at which point in time she started yelling at her daughter to be more
sensitive to the "less fortunate" and yanked her away from the area. I never did get to tell her off - and am actually glad because my granddaughter would have become upset that I was angry and she wouldn't have understood why, but sometimes I just want to smack some people or call the a******.

Thanks for listening.

So sorry that happened to you! :grouphug: I hope the rest of your vacation was more enjoyable.

I can never understand why anyone needs to be mean that little girl will be just like her mom. I hope the rest of you trip is great.

You can't fight stupid. Clearly this woman is stupid. Unfortunately she has reproduced. No point in giving people like this a piece of your mind, their brains are like Teflon, nothing sticks. I get to "experience" people like this once or twice a year. It always puts me in a sour mood too. Just love your granddaughter and ignore the stupid.

On a positive note I saw an article about a mom of a girl with Down's syndrome opening a doll company. Dollsfordowns.org

I think I am going to buy one.

Why would someone be so mean to a child and what is she teaching her child....so sorry for you

That's horrible. It scares me for the future that anyone would still think it's okay to bring their children up that way.

Thank you all for your responses, good wishes and letting me vent. We had a blast - my granddaughter was in heaven - she's really into Sesame Street especially Abby Cadabby?(sp).

Thank you for the website for the dolls - I have to check that one out.

I'm sorry that happened. Some people are down right mean-spirited and full of themselves. I'm glad she ran off because you are right that telling her off would have just upset you further and made your granddaughter sad :sad1: I'm glad you had a good time.

My Christian had been on the receiving end of some mean comments. It's sometimes hard to take, especially from adults who should know better. DH & I have a saying: They just don't have enough handicapped kids in their life. We know they are the losers, not him.

People are that way. :crazy2:It is part of life. Her daughter is special in her own way.

Sorry you had to deal with that. What she doesn't realize is that her daughter is the "less fortunate" for having a parent like that.

:sad2:

So sorry you had this happen. Some people!

My family had endured "words" too as our DD is disabled and I have had to BITE my tongue many many times over the years!!:sad1:Like you I did not want to upset my DD or waste my time! A few times I did say a few words in passing..:guilty: Guilty I know.

DD is 20 and she is a kind, compassionate wonderful young lady! She has made us the family we are today! :grouphug: We are strong and proud!

Glad you enjoyed the trip!!! princess:
