How buggy is it at this time of year (next week). Are mosquitoes a problem in the evenings?

I live 2 1/2 hours southwest of WDW (i.e. warmer and wetter) and I have not seen a mosquito in probably three months. Also, there are usually many more at my house than WDW b/c they spray well. Last week was very cold for us, so if anything be prepared for it to be colder than you expect.

I was at WDW in late January and got badly bitten while sitting out by the pool at OKW one evening. (Over 20 bites -- the skeeters love me.)

That said, I can't remember ever being bitten on any of my previous visits. Disney sprays the property constantly. So it was probably just bad luck.

I usually throw a few of the individually packaged Off Towelettes in my bag, so if there are mosquitos around, I can take care of it, but I don't have to wear the repellant "just in case".

Just like FoodLover said, I was there is mid January and all of us had bug bites on our lower legs. :crazy2: My daughter and son were the worst and my husband and I just had a couple. I didn't notice any bugs around us at all. It was warmer the days when we were there. It was like 70-80 degrees for about 7-8 days when we were there. Now just like FoodLover said the trips I have taken before I have never noticed any bugs and didn't have any bug bites. In fact in the past I have brought bug repellent and this time I didn't pack it because I have never used it.

Go Figure.

Bug bites or not have a great time on your trip!!!

If you didn't see them and the bites were on your lower legs, then those were not mosquitos. They were the infamous no-see-ums AKA sand fleas and a few other names. They are really small, really fast, teeth with wings. I hate them more than mosquitos. Once you start feeling an itch, you have probably already been bitten by twenty of the little vampires. They tend to be year round down here even when it gets cold. Luckily they do not travel too far from a damp area. Bug spray should also keep them away.

It usually takes a good two weeks straight of warm wet weather before mosquitos start showing up where I live. I am usually safe at my house until late March or early April.

I've been in January and it wasn't needed. I've never seen a need for it at any of the times we have been. I've been during January, July, August, September, November & December.

That's what bit you when you couldn't see them. They are extremely nasty. Give me a mosquito over a no see um any day. At least when a mosquito bites you it flies away when it's done. And the no see um bites seem to last for about 2 weeks. Horrible little creatures. They ate me alive one weekend on Sanibel Island.

They are very bad at the little bridge where it changes to Captiva. It is a shame b/c that is a great spot other than these. Bowman's beach is another bad spot for them and mosquitos.

We go every August, in the swampiest weather of all, and I've never been bitten (and I am normally a major attraction to things that bite). The only time I've ever gotten bites was at OKW in October.

Is Bowman's beach the one at the very end of Captiva? If it is, they got me there, too. By that point I had put on repellant but they still got me. They are horrid creatures.

Bowman's is off of Sanibel-Captiva Rd. while still on Sanibel. It is just a few minutes away from Captiva. You basically have to park and walk through the mangroves to get to the beach. The bugs start getting me as soon as I step out of the car there. It is a nice beach though. For less bugs, I find Lighthouse beach and Fort Myers Beach to be better. It is a different atmosphere than Sanibel though. We even have a tiny little beach in Cape Coral. It is not much, but it is a nice picture spot. If you are ever out on Pine Island at sunset, there is a nice place to watch it where Pineland Rd turns into Waterfront Dr. It is a Lee County park, but it is VERY TINY. I am talking about 75 feet across. It is bad for the no-see-ums. Not worth the drive just to see it, but worth a stop if you are out there anyway (and you have your bug spray with you!).

I go every year in July or August and there are no bugs in Disney that I have seen.
