Okay...I'm clueless here. :upsidedow

I was planning on getting SCAL for my birthday, but I remember someone mentioning Inkscape.

Which do you recommend?

Which one is easier? :rolleyes1

I do have the Cricut Design Studio, but I really am not that impressed. It has issues with me, I can design all I want, but I can never save the file. It just corrupts the file.:headache: I switched it to my new laptop (after jumping through hoops with Provocraft ) but it does the same thing.

Inkscape is a free program that works with Vectors (designing and editing). You can't use it to cut with your Cricut. You need SCAL to tell the Cricut to cut.

When you save in CDS, try doing it in "fit view". For some reason, it doesn't always like it when you have it at 100 or 200%. Can you open files others have designed?

Yes...I've tried that...it still corrupts the file. I haven't tried anyone elses files. I just got too frustrated and gave up. I now just leave the program open until I get what I need from it.

Thank you for clarifying the Inkscape/SCAL :)

Now...do I NEED to learn Inkscape right away? or can I just use SCAL alone until I get used to it?

No, you don't need to learn Inkscape. SCAL2 has a button in it where you can trace an image and then edit it in the program itself.

Are you able to cut without saving? That would make me crazy. I love CDS for what it can do (hate it for what it can't!). What is your email address? I can send you a file to try.

So far I've only been cutting quotes out of vinyl letters.... so I've been okay without saving.
It doesn't make you save before you cut thankfully.

kaw1218@hotmail.com is my email. Thank you for your help
