Hey everyone,
I thought this was a tread we might all appreciate!

I'm all signed up for the Goofy Challenge 2010 and am so excited everytime I think about it. Unfortunately I've been having some problems with my peroneal tendons down under my ankle to the bottom of my foot and it's making me very anxious thinking about training all year and then potentially not being able to run the races. I wondered if anyone had any suggestions on prevention for this injury and possible treatment. Right now I'm training for a 30km race at the end of March.
Thanks in advance!

I've got no answers for you--I'm sorry--but I thought I'd bump this so some of our more knowledgeable WISHers might see it. Good luck! :thumbsup2

How about Plantar Faciitis- anyone have suggestions? Ice actually makes it worse.

Cortisone injection probably- Ugh!

They have a new surgical procedure we do at work but I would really rather not.

Sorry I don't have any words of wisdom for you, but I will bump this up hoping someone else does.

I would suggest seeing a physio or a podiatrist (I don't have any experience with a podiatrist). They would be better able to diagnose your injury and recommend the proper treatment before it gets worse.

I see a physio regularly who works with athletes so he's been able to fix most of my bumps, aches and pains associated with running. I also see him for personal training so he's able to keep an eye on me during the year.

When I first started running, I had knee pain which changed into back pain. My PT was able to figure out that it was poor running form and a lack of core strength. Once we worked on that, a lot of the problems I had went away.

If you have health insurance through school or your workplace, it should cover a majority of the PT fees ... since OHIP no longer does *grumble grumble*

Well, not being a doctor or physical therapist I have not specific cures for ailments but I do recommend going to runnersworld.com and searching for any ailments you have. You can usually find good articles on prevention and treatment there.

Some general advice I have learned (some harder ways than others) is:

Stretch before a run. Don't over do it but some leg stretches and polymetrics go a long way.

Ice your feet or legs after any long run. I don't do this as religiously but as soon as I start feeling more sore than I should after a run I start icing again.

Don't increase your miles too quickly. Once you have been running a while you learn your body better but a good rule of thumb is to only increase your weekly miles by 10% from your current mileage.

Good luck everyone with your injuries.
