I was just watching channel 9 (Orlando WFTV) and there was a blurb for the news about a serious injury on MIB today. The news doesn't come on for an hour.

Does anyone know anything about this? I'll switch over to the 24 hour local news channel and see if they say anything.

Oh my! I'll look it up to see if I find out anything. But internet would be my only resource. Keep us updated! :(

Dangit dangit dangit! I did it again!!! This is Flyfly under mom's s/n. :p

OK, they just said a little more. It was an 11 year old boy, nothing else yet but the news comes on in 5 minutes.

Oh no! A child?! :( I'm curious as to what exactly happened. If it was the ride itself that was the cause (though I can't picture something like MIB causing serious injuries) or if it was a medical thing (like Motherfletcher and I saw the guy have a seizure waiting for the Beetlejuice Show). Whatever the cause, I hope he's all right!! :( :(

An 11 year old boy from Britain was injured on MIB today when his foot got stuck on the ride. It took several minutes to get it free. The boy was transported to a hospital by ambulance. No report on his condition. Ride will be closed until tomorrow.

(that's all they said---maybe they will know more for the 11:00 news.)

Aww! :( How on earth did he get it stuck I wonder...! Poor little guy! Thanks for letting me know...was finding nothing online...not even on www.local6.com when I was looking earlier.

A poster on IoA central said that local 6 news said:

He stuck his foot out of the vehicle while it was approaching the unloading platform and it somehow was pinned inbetween the vehicle and the platform. The injury sounds pretty bad because LOCAL6 has reported that doctors might have to remove one of his toes.

OMG!!!!! :( :( :(

Makes me think of the story of Space Mountain. I don't know if it was true or not...might have just been a horror story told by my aunt. About a kid's foot getting badly injured.

It's a shame what happened, but it was his own fault, not the ride's.

Yes, I do not blame the ride or employees at all. I'm sure this little boy was just anticipating getting off so he could just hop back right on. Since he was from the UK, I'm sure this was a vacation and he was just too excited. :( That makes me feel so sad for him. What a way to ruin a vacation!!! :(

You are right, DM. They say over and over again not to take off your seatbelt until instructed by the attendant. He wouldn't have been able to get his foot onto the track if his seatbelt was on.

Last week, there was a tiny little boy riding with me. I'm assuming he passed the height test or wouldn't be riding but he was the smallest kid I have ever seen on the ride. There were 8 in the child's party and 6 went on one car and the mom and the child went on mine. (I didn't even know the family and I was a single rider.) The mom got in the front and put the child alone in the back by me. The kid kept trying to unbuckle the seatbelt and was also leaning forward during the ride. I know exactly when the spins are on the ride and I was freaking out. I didn't shoot the gun once as I spent my whole time, hanging onto him when he tried to sit forward. Finally, when we were going through the "big, big bug" and getting ready for the final spin, he reached for his seat buckle again and I yelled "Don't you dare touch that buckle, young man!"

When I got off, I alerted an employee he (the little boy) shouldn't be allowed to ride again.

With a throughput of 2200 the attraction accomodates 8 million riders annually. MIB has an excellent safety record.

It is sad to say but some parents do not watch their children very well. They think that there are other adults around & they will just automatically watch out for them.... Bev ... just like you did! I know I do the same when I see a small child on a ride by themselves. Back in Oct while riding Tower of Terror there were 2 young girls on it... they were next to me & my daughter. They were ok when the ride first start....but when the ride came to the floor where the drops occur...one of the girls started freaking out & crying...she was trying to unbuckle hersefl... I had to calm her down...held her had & made sure she stayed buckled in. When we go off the ride....they couldn't even find the adult they were with. I stayed with them until they did..... parents really need to stop and think sometimes... my kids call me over protective.... I can't help it..... I don't take them or anything for granted!!! Bev...it is in your nature to help .... I saw that when you helped me with Jessie on & off the ride ...and in and out of the wheelchair...I would like to thank you once again for that.... I hope that child who was hurt today isn't tooo badly injured. Like FlyFly & others have said.... it wasn't the ride nor Universal's employees..... they had no control over what happened.

.sorry for this ... this wasnt' suppose to be a post..for some odd reason my post came up a second time ... I couldn't delete the post...just the words ... anyway... any updates on the child hurt?

Wow! That is really sad. I do have to say though, regardless of it being his fault or not, it still is so sad to hear. I am sure he did not purposely put his foot in the way. I hope he recovers without any permanent damage.:(

the safety instructions are there for a reason but if you do not have a parent or adult there to implement them , then there is going to be problems. It would be nice if kids were to sit nice during and after the ride but we all know this isnt the case. Parents need to take more responsibility on these rides, i have seen dozens of incidents where accidents could have happened, including a child with his parents sitting in front of him trying to get off the Kilimanjaro ride at Animal Kingdom , while the driver was screaming down the mic to sit down all this while going past the alligators!!!!! The parents didnt raise an eyebrow. After the ride had stopped the driver got out and spoke to the family at the side, and they started arguing with him. I mean this guy was more worried about there sons safety than they were. It made me soo mad. Parents need to look after there own children and not rely on other ppl.

steve

my 2 cents lol

I couldn't agree more. Too many people let their children run free in the parks. I have seen children, about 11 or 12 unattended so often. It is such a sad commentary. There is so much that we hear, daily, from the media, and people still take their children's safety for granted. I hope this young boy has a complete recovery and perhaps this will make at least some parents more attentive.

You know,,,it's kind of weird. I lurk on this board and a cruise board and the main complaint on both seem to be "unattended children". To a certain degree it seems that some parents consider both the parks and cruise ships to be "controlled" environments where no harm can be done. And yet, whenever I have my kids at either venue I'm seem to be more attentive to the "what-ifs". Just don't understand what goes through some of the other parents minds sometimes.

Sure hope the little guy is OK,,,tough way to learn that rules are there for a reason.

I went on MIB today and they had added positions at the unload area just to make sure that all was well. A bit unnecessary, IMO...
