Injuries in Parks

A few of them are really sad - a 4 year old on Mission:Space? But there are a lot of injuries listed for Peter Pan's Flight, most about falling while getting in and out of the ride vehicle. A few elderly people falling out of Nemo's ride too...

Wow, that's really sad. A lot of them I don't remember.

I do not want to see this thread turn into a debate over CMs that don't care and those that do,do I have a lawsuit or don't I,guests that violate safety rules, that is why we have lawyers and courts and this forum seeks to be neither. We want to help our posters plan a great experience at Disney World and if you have information on safety tips that would help others by all means share those with us.Thanks Danny

When DS was 3.5 at MK, he fell getting on the train and his upper front teeth went through just below his lower lip. It was small, but it bled a lot. We went to the first aid station and they cleaned it, and we stayed there until we got the bleeding stopped. It wasn't bad enough to get stitches, we just had to be careful what we gave him to eat so that it didn't make it feel worse....acidic foods, salty foods etc.

The nurse was very nice, they wanted to know exactly what happened and how it happened. It was just because it had been raining and his shoes were slick causing him to slip. I carry bandaids with me, but they were way to big, so they gave me small round ones, and they gave him several stickers.

Every theme park in the world has lists like those.i used to work at Six Flags Great Adventure when I was younger. We had many deaths and injuries due to people with underlying medical conditions to people just being stupid. There were a few that were the fault of the theme park. They happen all the time, hence all the warnings on the queues and at the front of the line.

It doesn't suprise me that so many people fall on the moving walkways. My mom, who is 66, has trouble on those.

This is a good reminder for the rest of us that we need to take the ride warnings seriously. It is sad that so many people with pre-existing conditions seem to ignore the warnings, and then fall ill or die.

Theme Park Insider lists injuries at theme parks worldwide according to either "verified" or "unverified" status. I always try to check there before going to a park just to give myself a head's up on potential risky spots, such as getting on and off the raft rides. (Well, that one's pretty much a given anyway)

Theme park safety is something every visitor must be aware of but unfortunately so many seem to be complacent. Accidents happen in every park there is, from the tiny road-side carnivals to the biggest and largest theme parks. I feel safer at the major parks, but that doesn't mean I should not still pay close attention. Accidents happen in an instant. Sometimes they can't be predicted or avoided but other times they can. The saying about an ounce of prevention being worth more than a pound of cure is certainly true in this case.

The 4 year old had pre-existing (but undiagnosed) health conditions. His name was Daudi Bamuwamye.

Moving walkways are difficult for some folks, and that's why the new Toy Story Mania attraction has a loading section for guests with mobility issues seperate from the main ride track. That means people can load and unload at their pace, and not worry about holding up the attraction :thumbsup2

It may not be that they ignored the warning about conditions but that were undiagnosed at the time.

I rode TSM 2x this month - it does not have a moving walkway - the car stopped in front of us and we climbed in while the previous occupants climbed out the other side (similar to the loading/unloading in Small World, as an example). However, the ride loads at the bottom of a set of stairs, so the other loading section must be to avoid the stairs.

Just posting in case any with mobility concerns were worried about it.

Actually, considering the number of people who visit these parks annualy, the number of injuries/deaths is fairly low.

some of those listings are crazy and some very vague:

terminal ill person feels bad after getting off ride

guest recently released from hospital with lung condition has trouble breathing!!!!

guest got off ride didnt feel well!

some are just silly in that they dont tell you anything. Oh and all those 'hip fractures' from falls, usually its actually the other way around, usually the hip fractures causing the person to fall.

Every theme park has its share of injuries, every sport arena, every grocery store, ect ect. Accidents and injuries happen everywhere. I just feel bad for those that have a major incident while on vacation. Those cases where you hear about a death, especially that of a child, are just horrible. :( Thankfully these events are very very few when weighed against the millions of 'uneventful' trips that get taken.

Two trips ago, while at WDW my mom shattered her knee cap. I've learned my lesson....on future trips....I dont take my mom! :rotfl:

Those descriptions are VERY vague. What they don't tell you is WHY. A seizure. Was the person on Dilantin (like I am)? If not, then this was something totally undiagnosed. If they were on Dilantin, when was the last time they had their level checked (it has to be pretty close to perfectly level at all times)? Did they even remember to take the medication that day (you get all off kilter if you miss even one day)?

Leave it to the Orlando Sentinal to have something like this. I'll stop now before I start bashing that "newspaper".
